I wouldn't, I'd hug him and try to isolate him from people and put my body between him and as many people as I could. But thats only for bombers that are 18-25, female, and look good.

Another example of pointless reactionism?
(Hmm, is reactionism a word?)
***Transportation of ink and toner cartridges by air is restricted***

12 November, 2010 | 05:06PM GMT

Following recent incidents with improvised explosive devices, the Secretary of State for Transport has issued a directive prohibiting the transportation by air of ink or toner cartridges, to any destination inside or outside the UK. This directive comes into effect immediately. To avoid any doubt, an ink or toner cartridge is defined as ‘a cartridge weighing more than 500g designed for use in printing equipment such as printers, photocopiers and fax machines’.

If you sell ink and toner cartridges, you should:

• Amend your listing, eg to include information about these restrictions

• Update your delivery service in the postage & packaging section of the ‘sell your item’ form

• Contact your delivery company to obtain up-to-date information on delivery services available for ink and toner cartridges

Find out more about what the Secretary of State for Transport said here

That is correct.
Until politics should be like jury duty.

Everyone thinks the justice system should be fair. So jury duty is the way it is.

If you want government to be the same, follow the model.
That is the best suggestion yet. I am going to forward it to a few politicians. The mechanics could be relatively simple, random selection, and serve for one session (or whatever) only. $40 per day salary, free parking, and no other perks.

It is now. TSA is famous for only using hindsight in all areas. The toner scare wouldn't have been found if it weren't for an "anonymous tip", and they weren't DD's (Destructive Devices). So why ban them since it appears whoever put them on the plane had an "in" with the airplane maintenance/loading crew, they just need to switch to Teddy Bears next time, and nothing will be found.

I am more of the opinion that this is "The Man" reminding us plebes who is in charge. :(

I just hate travel these days. Ever since 9/11 in fact. I count my blessing I have only had to travel by plane only 5 times this last year. A few years back I averaged over 50 flights a year. I really hate to fly now, but as someone said earlier, I had once thought it was fun.

Just a couple of highlights post 9/11.

About 3 weeks after I took a business trip from Toronto to New Jersey, then on to meet with a gorgeous woman I was dating at the time in Bermuda for a week. The two of us flew back together with a stop over in Long Island for a quick trip in to head office. Getting on the plane to Toronto the hand-scanner beep as it crossed her chest. She was rather well endowed and proud of it so wore an under-wire bra to make the most of it. For some reason the wire did not beep on the one side. The TSA girl, without asking permission opened the top two buttons on her blouse, right there in line, and stuck her hand in. Now, remember, they still had military at the airports toting M16s at that time. My lady friend objected with a "Hey!" and pulled back a bit, which caught the attention of the soldiers. So, she was carted off, not be the TSA, but by the marines. The TSA girl then turned her attention to me. My belt buckle made a beep and I was asked to undo it and the top buttons of my pants. She checked again and it still beeped. At least she warned me with a terse “I gotta check down there” before stuffing her hand down. Again, right there in line. Same hand and glove that was in my friends bra just minutes before. I shudder to think where else it had been. I guess I checked out okay as I was moved through the security. I asked about my travel companion and was told she would not be long and that I was to go ahead and board the plane. She never made it on that flight. I got a call from her once I landed in Toronto saying she’d be on the next plane. I waited for her, but to this day she could not bring herself to tell me what happened to her at Laguardia. She did not get on another plane for 5 years.

Sometime after that pleasant flight, I was traveling back from a business trip to Atlanta with one of the guys that worked for me at the time. He was also one of my best friends. He got pulled out of line while boarding. Apparently a name like his was on the 'no-fly' list. He told me the details of being strip-searched, deep cavity checked and being kept naked for over 8 hours while he was questioned 6 different times. Even though he supplied them with overwhelming evidence of his identity, including a lawyers number, my number, and a corporate HR number he was eventually given his clothes and escorted back across security and told he would not be allowed to board a plane in the US. He had to rent a car at Hertz and drive back to Canada. It took him 5 years and more than $30,000 to get his name off the no-fly list.

These are just 2 stories out of how many tens or hundreds of thousands since then.

These measures simply do not work. Those of you that fly satisfied you are safe becasue of them are deluding yourselves.

One example: A person could hide a plastic tube containing 4 or 5 ounces of compressed phosgene gas in their rectum that would not be picked up by hand scanners, detector loops, full-body scanners or swabs. Get on a plane, release it and kill everyone aboard. You can make phosgene gas at home and there are much worse gases available. This is just one idea and I’m an (arguably) sane and respectable member of society. I wonder what a crazed suicide terrorist could come up with?

jpanhalt, I was listed in my high-school yearbook as "Most likely to change the government...Not necessarily for the better ;)"

All kidding aside, I have always thought it should be done that way.

You have no idea who will be next, and you dont spend enough time in office to get in bed with big-business. The big problems are when big-business select the people who are running and back them.

Look at 90% of politicians histories. They have huge ties to business. They don't even care enough to try to hide it after they leave office.

Many go right into the companies that they helped while in office.

Thats all crap.

There are no repeat terms. You spend one term then done. You have served your time. Thank you. NEXT!

It will require a change for the greater good, because if big-business wants a change, it will have to be a change for all. It will have to be agreed upon by people who just a few weeks ago were trashmen, or cab drivers, or rocket scientists.

The blend would truly allow for the American public to be represented.

Rich people DO NOT represent the average man. PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

You mix a jury for a fair mix, So mix congress and our Representatives for a fair mix.

You may get a pedophile or an axe murderer every once in a while, or even a big-business CEO every once in a while, but things have to be voted on so they cant just start passing laws all willy-nilly.

retched, I think we would be greatly benefited by having term limits in congress. 5 and 6 term senators tend to have a lot of influence on the new guys, setting everything up to go screwy in the same old way. This is why different presidents typically don't have much of an impact.

I'd also be happy with a law for former congress getting nothing once leaving office. As it is now, one only needs to be elected once and they are set for life.

That is THE biggest problem I have with the current setup.

They flip us off when they leave office.

Quoting BillO:

And don't forget that all this harassing, humiliation, physical assault, phsycological assault, financial handicap and banishment of moral and political rights are to prevent a potential attack.

You might as well be under martial law for that matter.

I would never trade my freedom for a promised security, all the while I would know that the men pulling the strings don't have my security as their priority.
I 'd rather be inside Mad Max's world and fend for myself.

Exactly. They are only interested in fabricating an environment that ensures their own job security.

Scanners, unreasonable process or the consequences of getting caught, will not dissuade terrorists. These nut cases are willing to die to make a point. With an attitude like that, there is no way to beat them.

Heck this is what politics are all about. Both Bush's used their security breifing reports to help their arms business's. Its been said they are the only presidents that actually used their right for classified breifings. Then went and invested in defence contractors. This Countrys so corrupt right now I can only hope people smarten up and only higher veterans for gov. for the next 50 years. Back in the day you had to serve in the military to get elected. Now since we've had a small 10 year war that no rich kids or political families were in we have a good hope people will just start electing veterans from iraq and Afg. Personally I think it should be law you serve in the military if you hold a political office.

Sounds like Heinlein's "StarShip Troopers". The movie didn't do it justice.
Hardley, I didn't mean gov. jobs, I mean political office on a national and state level. Your local government doesn't need to serve, and you can still be a citizen without serving. But thats actually a requirement already in many countries, like isreal.

So now they are talking about adding pat-down searches to trains and subways.

Tomorrow I get back on a plane.

That means I get to make out with a TSA employee. YES! SCORE!

HAHAAhahWhat?

Of course they are leather pants. ;)

I would ask questions like, are you an android?

When was your last OS update?

Is your computer screen set to 40 characters wide?

Will you grab me a beer while you are up?

How many years of practice did it take for you to perfect the English language, and your poetry technique?

Boxers or Briefs?

Those types of questions.. The standards.
