That is pure nonsense. As the cost of education rises to stratospheric levels and the cost of debt rises in step, fewer and few men, at least, are choosing the path of higher education. The same is apparently not true for women in the US at least. There are numerous pathways to financial independence and success.

It only depends upon your passion for a particular subject.
After You have the passion,
it's only a matter of learning how to
define all the mis-understood terminology surrounding your passion.
Then spend time with people who have similar interests,
either through Books, Videos/Websites, or in person.

Attending College is proven to lower your I.Q. .
Do You want to be proficient at regurgitating what You have been told,
or would You rather have the ability to actually understand what You are looking at ?

My preference is to have above-average competence on a wide variety of subjects,
then I can better "weed-out" the people/sources who may be incompetent.

I've met, seen, or otherwise experienced,
plenty of PHDs/Doctors who are complete, blind idiots,
even in their field of specialization.
College doesn't guarantee anything, ( except a huge debt ).

Hint ......
The more Misunderstood-Words that You plow past in an effort to get a Passing-Grade,
the dumber You get.
It's automatic, and guaranteed.

Misunderstood words, semi-permanently, or permanently,
tie-up what might be referred to as "Attention-Units".
Traumatic-Experiences also do the same.

Anyone has only a fixed number of "Attention-Units" to work with,
which varies from person to person.

The "Attention-Units" can subsequently be "freed-up" for productive use,
if You know the "tips and techniques" for doing so.
It takes quite a few years, and a very Open-Mind to learn how to do it.
It starts by studying old English-Grammar-Books, ( written before approximately ~1965 ),
then keeping several Dictionaries handy at all times,
and defining every word you're not absolutely sure of.
Using the word in sentences, and looking-up the derivation of the word can be helpful as well.

Some categories of words are specifically designed to deceive the reader,
everything under the heading of "Law" or "Government" falls into this category.
When You really study Law, and define all the words, it becomes painfully obvious.
For instance, the word "Police" comes from "Policy-Enforcer", ( who makes the "Policy" ??? ),
and it's in use Worldwide with only slight variations in spelling,
and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with enforcing the "Law".

The word "Spelling" comes from the act of "Casting-Spells" on someone ....... yes it really does.

I

I fall in this category not smartest but self learnt.
The most successful people are autodidacts. It doesn't matter whether they attend university or get formal training, it is the autodidacticism that raises them to the highest levels. If you don't learn on your own, you can only know what someone has told you.

As soon as you research something you are interested in, you start on the path of an autodidact. If you imagine that all of your knowledge will come to you during the time you sit in class, complete labs, and do homework you are always going to be no more than a sort of technician.

And, to be clear a person with the job title "technician" isn't constrained by that to only reflecting the work of others. But in the same vein, someone formally trained in some subject matter, no matter how lofty, could easily be nothing more than a vessel of the ideas of others.

So, it's about you. Don't wait around for someone to teach you the "secrets". Don't look for a guru, in that direction is only self-suppression. Learn from everyone, and everything. Dig into whatever interests you. Don't ask, "how do I dig?", start digging however you can.

If you have a spoon, dig with that. Don't wait for someone to gift you a shovel. Then, when you find things in the hole you are making, work out why they are there on your own. When you've actually come to a point where you can't go further, ask about that.

The very first thing you must do it recognize that the student and teacher are a system. One depends on the other and sometimes your teacher isn't even a person. To start your journey, learn to detect your assumptions. What are you treating as self evident? Question those things.

"Question authority" may be trite but it is critical and nowhere more so than the hidden burden of authority that comes in the form of self evident truth we don't even see as the target for a question.

Never will you gain more than those times when you suddenly realize that you have been assuming something to be the case that isn't necessarily so. Those are the most potent insights you can have, and they are precious. Dig for them.
