Boy was a trip BACK through security a trip!

I should post some pictures.

I have a pretty awesome pair of wingtips, which I had to remove and pass through the xray.. My coat was on top of my shoes and in the coat pocket I had a cell phone in my pocket, my usb charger, and a lighter (Brilliant). Apparently the cable from the charger, the metal plates in my shoes and the cellphone looked bad stacked through the xray...

So, I get yanked out of line along with my sister.

They check my shoes for explosive residue and check my sisters carry on.

My wingtips have a metal plate on the bottom arch showing the logo.

I guess through the xray that was a little more than they were expecting.

They didn't pat me down, and they didn't pat my brother or sister down.

They didn't even stop him.

Many folks flying out of Atlants were being patted down however.

It seemed to be mostly women. ESPECIALLY women who failed to remove necklaces.

Maybe they think the necklace will "ok" them for why the wand triggered by the breast, and the TSA (Touch Some A$$) figures that this "necklace sleight-of-hand" is a red-flag.

Dunno, but the woman in front of me had a thick 3/8inch gold chain and she was pat down.

All-in-all uneventful, I am 2 for 2 for getting checked for explosive residue.


Soon, the TSA will just send some one to your home 48 hours before a flight to live with and shadow you. To make this less inconvenient, they will help you pack AND carry your bags!

C'mon flyin out of the Dirty South! I'm surprised they had a metal detector so much as use it. May be it was a fake and some bpdy would just beep a button when he thought someone should be searched.

I remember my first time driving in ATL. I'm coming onto the interstate off Monroe. I'm getting on looking for an opening, had to put 2 tires in the grass for like 200 ft going 80mph. Finally I got in and cut off a cop to get in. I was terrified we were gonna be pulled over and ticketed but my bud that lived there laughed and said the cops only pull you over if you hit someone. All I could think is LOL... I think of that everytime I'm almost killed on a GA road. Last time I was coming from Memphis and it was Sun afternoon at like 12-2. I'm flying about 90 through the city and I hit downtown and turn a corner and see about a 5 mile line of parked cars. I litterally slammed on my brakes chirping the brakes every second or two. Finally slid to a stop about 3ft off the guy in front of me's bumper. Again all I can think is this damn city doesn't even have traffic flow signs yet but they have a carpool lane. lol

 

I remember MY first time driving in Atlanta. I was coming in from the north on I-75 in a 33ft motorhome that I had only started driving about 4 or 5 days earlier, in Idaho. I couldn't believe the traffic! It was heavy, but that was not what impressed me. Semis were driving 75-80mph in every lane, and there were about 5 lanes in each direction, IIRC. My wife and I were really glad to get out of there.

 

over the past thirty years or so I have driven through Atlanta hundreds of times but ONE time scared the living hell out of me.

I was teaching technicians at Warner Robins (100 miles south of Atlanta) our control systems.
a person barged into the training room and told us to turn on the television immediately. The first plane had just crashed into the WTC on 9-11.
We watched with horror as the second plane struck the other tower.

Class dismissed, I'm out of here. Heading back to Baltimore (driving, all planes grounded) I drove through downtown Atlanta (I85/I75) at 5:00 PM.
There was not ONE vehicle ANYWHERE on the highway but ME! Scared the crap out of me. I kept looking up at the buildings, under and around all the overpasses, everywhere....the eeriest sensation. I was doing about 90 mph when I flew through the I-285 / I-85 crossover (spaghetti junction). I wasnt going to slow down till either I ran out of gas, got pulled over by a policeman, or hit the South Carolina line.

It is usually like Ron said, 80mph five lanes full. But NO cars at rush hour?
like after a nuclear holocaust in those bad sci-fi movies. or after a neutron bomb I guess

 

Back about 10 years ago I used to fly into Hatsfield-Jackson on an almost weekly basis, take the 285 bypass to the east then up 85 to Greenville, SC to visit with the folks at Bowater Pulp and Paper. Must have done that trip to and fro 25-30 times. One thing I appreciated, the folks around Atlanta don't seem to get into traffic jams that much. The freeways always seemed to move.

On the airport, not a bad destination, but a hell of a place to have to transfer!!!

 

I had no problems with traffic. A steady 70-75mph, co traffic. I do not recall having to use my breaks AT ALL on the highway except to prepare to exit.

I dont know if they have the "no-passing-on-right" law or not, but as said, there are plenty of lanes to choose from.

I do not recall seeing any taxis anywhere besides the airport either.

They have outstanding public transportation, and 24 hour HOV lanes that help get things moving, I suppose.

LOL I remember hitting ATL at 4:30pm on a Fri. I didn't leave ATL till 9:15pm. Thats how long it took to get through ATL not stopping just in traffic.

Its all what your used to too. Your around DC correct? So ATL isn't that far off from DC traffic wise, or drug and crime wise. I had to sleep in DC one night. Paid $100 for a crappy motel in the hood that had prostitutes knocking on peoples doors proposing to them. I was just shocked. Thinking how many $15 motels we'd stayed in the hood all over the US and never seen pro's walking up to people checking in asking if they want a date. LOL and of coarse I said yes and we watched sponge bob for 2 hours.

 

I dunno how things could have changed so much.

My flight home departed at 5:45pm, so I was driving to the airport around the same time.

No problem. We actually did 2 minutes better than the GPS estimate !
