Frequency Converter - Varying Input to Constant Output

Hello all, first post.

I've been reading about VFDs and frequency conversion, but have had no luck finding a solution for my problem. What I have is a nominally constant voltage (120V) with a wildy varying current and frequency from a wind generator. What I would like to do is convert it from a varying frequency caused by the varying blade speed from the wind to a constant 60Hz or 50Hz for tieing into the grid.

I understand the frequency conversion process (rectifier to inverter), but don't understand it well enough to figure out how it works myself or make one. My background is in mechanical engineering sadly.

Would anyone here know if this is possible? Would it have to be something custom made as there is no current product out there to achieve this?

It's called a grid tie inverter, but they don't work with, "wildy varying current and frequency". You have to put the wildly varying current into a battery and let the grid tie inverter draw power from the battery. It's not a simple job, but it has been done, and you can buy one.

Why do you want to tie into the grid? If it's to get paid by the utility company for power you generate then the company is unlikely to accept a DIY system.
