(Video Below)

I am a photographer. I shoot a lot of landscape photography and my gear is all high end pro kit.

Aerial photography using drones is everywhere now. It wasn't too long ago when you were looking at a 5-figure investment to buy a drone system that could produce pro-level video or still results. Well, that's changed.

I recently got a DJI Mavic 4 Pro—their flagship prosumer drone. The pitch it as pro gear—and it is—but they offer a level above this for Hollywood style cinematography. With the Mavic 4 Pro, you can get results that are literally usable in any sort of pro application for about the price of a professional camera body.

It's on-board cameras are amazing, including more the 15 stops of dynamic rage in video, high megapixel RAW format stills—and you can do it up to 400 feet in the air and moving up to around 50MPH. it's truly amazing.

The video below is from a recreational test flight. It is near sunset (the low light performance is amazing). If you aren't looking to do aerobatics or complex moves, the drone is easier to fly than it is to operate the cameras which offer a full range of control like you would find on a pro camera that doesn't fly through the air. The capabilities of this drone are amazing. I can't really get into all of them here, but I am happy to answer any specific questions—or go watch some videos about it.

I am in the process of getting a UAS pilot's license so I can incorporate aerial photography into my professional practice. Until then, my flying is purely recreational and I share it after the fact as part of that hobby. If you are interested, please, do ask questions. I would love to help someone get in to the drone hobby.

I had an interesting experience with a friend's drone. We were watching video we'd taken which was very stable, no shaking around or bat-cam tilting. This was highlighted when the drone was coming in to land. We could see the shadow of the drone. It was jiggling about as the breeze buffeted it. Yet the video was very, very stable. I was thoroughly impressed.
