I bought a Weller ETC tip and it looks different from all the other weller tips I have. It has a hole on the side, and the label is stamped on crudely instead of laser etched.



Does anyone know why this tip is made so differently than other weller tips? I thought it might be a fake, but now i'm starting to think this is a new old stock tip from many years ago.

 

Probably a copy, Weller use magnetic temperature control each tip has a number stamped on the bottom for reference.

 

It is a tip for a Weller adjustable soldering station. See the list below, model ETC. Even if it is not a genuine Weller tip, it should work as long as the plating on the tip lasts.

@Dodgydave , not all weller tips have a magnet.
There are series of weller that have temperature regulation by the solder station.
The series with the magnet are fixed temperatures, coded by the numbers.
