Interesting to note that the one in RS's photo has differently formed leads, but the drawing in the datasheet looks like yours.

Your pictures don't have enough resolution to see if any of the counterfeiting telltales are present. My suggestion is to test for beta and maximum current to see if they're within specifications.

If you use a PWM circuit to test maximum current you can reduce power dissipation, and therefore heat sinking requirements.

A curve tracer would make checking beta more convenient.

 

Isn’t a 2N3055 chip the sort of thing you might use to fake something better if you were in the business of making fake transistors?

 

Try it, or buy a new one through an authorized distributor.
