Fake or not

Hey , since i know nothing about circuits. I bought this what they called a performance chip and gas saver. U cut it in to ur temp sensor. I had my doubt but figd id pull it apart weather it worked or not. Im great at tearing stuff apart, just not so much getting it back 2gether. Anyway 2 make a long story even longer, ive had this on my dodge ram 4 about 2 years. Its done nothing 2 improve anything. Of course it was covered with glue or ? When i pulled it apart, the only thing holding the chip in was the glue. So i soldered it . Figd it couldn't hurt. The board says Car Performance Module, ver 2.0 , Rev- c, made in usa. Does it really do anything or just another scam? Thanks

Won’t be the first, won’t be the last gasoline-saving scam.
Back in the late 1970s I also acquired a similar gadget. My experience was identical to yours, the gadget didn’t do anything.

Why ask us when you already have your answer? I will answer anyway. There is little chance that does anything. I have not, however, fully ruled out magic.

Two things I see - first, it's covered in a way you can't tell what it is other than it's "A Chip". Second, ANY chip I know of requires far more than just two wires. Chips need Positive and Negative. That's two wires right there. Next; they need inputs and outputs. They need sensors to measure parameters and need the ability to modify some sort of response.

Wiring something into the temp sensor would have almost nothing to do with fuel economy. If it makes your vehicle run hotter - that's going to waste fuel. Your engine turns fuel into heat energy. That heat expands and drives the pistons down. I'll give you some numbers but these numbers are likely incorrect, but I've heard that 1/3 of your gasoline goes into wasted heat, heat the radiator has to dissipate. More of that fuel goes into overcome friction of running gears and friction of tires on the road. A lot of your fuel does not go into making the vehicle move. Eliminating those factors are what makes gas mileage go up. Putting something on your Temp sensor - well, I'm shaking my head. It has done nothing as you've seen. When I was young I tried many fuel improvement techniques and none of them have given the promised increase in gas mileage. Any claim that says you can improve your mileage by more than 2% is likely false. When it comes to those claims that you can improve your mileage by 50%, 75%, 150% - they are scams.

Automotive engineers have done a lot of work getting you the best gas mileage possible. If there's a device that legitimately extends mileage - auto manufacturers would have included that in their engineering.

Way back in the 70's I heard numerous rumors that someone had invented a 50mpg carburetor but, of course, the oil companies had bought the patent and suppressed its availability.
Someone I worked with even insisted he knew of someone personally who had managed to get one and install it on his car.
Of course it was all totally bogus.
Given the likely billions the car companies have spent to improve the gas economy of their vehicles, they would have obtained that device in spite of the oil companies.

Of course there is a 50 MPG carburetor, but it only works with that 50CC engine on that lightweight motorbike. And the test run is done after the engine is fully warmed up. And at a rather low speed. Those are the missing details in that legend.

Snake oil. I fell for similar gadgets in the 1970's; before I knew better. In general, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Your post was a wall of poorly punctuated text with a smattering of "text speak" that many/most of us dislike. Do us, and yourself, a favor and take the time to spell out words, capitalize properly, and use paragraphs to organize your thoughts in future posts.

Welcome to AAC.

As far as I can tell from the photo, the chip—which at a guess is a salvaged microprocessor with its identification ground off—is not connected to anything.

There are no traces on the PCB, only the pads for the chip's pins—and you mention it wasn't even soldered in place. The board is the lowest quality type and it is so thin the backlighting is enough to show there are no internal layers that could be the connections.

It is a complete fake, including the "made in USA" attribution. eWaste turned into a way to collect your money, nothing more.

NOW AN IMPORTANT QUESTIONS: Where did the TS see this fake advertised for sale?? What is the name of the seller?
Do the rest of us a favor so that we can be aware of who sells fakes! Any site that will sell one fake will probably sell others, and at that point perhaps some law enforcement folks could be persuaded to step in.

Close but no cookie, It's the expanding gas that drives the piston.
Yes, that's what I meant. The expanding gasses are expanding because of the heat generated by the burning of the fuel.

Fact: you are changing one form of energy for another. The hydrocarbons in fuel are burned and changed into heat and motion. If you're going 25 MPH you are using X amount of fuel to accomplish that. If you want to accelerate to 50 MPG you are going to be using 4X to sustain the higher speed. The best way to reduce gas waste is to drive slower and accelerate slower. That and to take your foot off the gas pedal when you see the traffic light 100 yards or more is red or turning red.

You use gas to accelerate from a stop. When you're moving you are using less gas. When you step on the brakes you exchange the inertial momentum into heat. Your brakes bring the car to a stop, turning the energy into heat.

These are facts of physics. You can't get more out than you put in. And what you put in, some of it is wasted heat. Now, think of this: Your vehicle weighs 2,000 lbs. Assuming you're driving a small car. Assume you weigh 200 pounds. 10% of your fuel is going to move you. 90% are going into moving your vehicle. That's why car-pooling saves gas. Yes, you use more gas but you're only driving one vehicle. When someone tells you they've discovered a way to get better gas mileage the FIRST thing you should do is question the validity of the claim. Then think with logic. If it seems too good to be true - it probably is.

I described the application of the 50 MPG carb in post #6. It does exist! BUT it will not work for a car. That is the detail that is never mentioned.
