ESD sensitivity of SMD components

Im trying to organize my SMD parts in plastic containers and then I started worrying about ESD. How sensitive are the SMD resistors, caps, diodes etc? I’m pretty sure it won’t be good for chips and regulators. I printed some PLA containers which are related to polyester. Any chance I can use them for other than just pots and connectors?

Check the datasheets of the parts. If they state that are ESD sensitive and to what voltage, you shouldn't use these containers. But for caps, resistors etc. I doubt to be sensitive. If they were MOSFETS, you would have a problem.

But check the datasheets. They state that.

Hope that helps

Thanks Doros I’ll check data sheet. But really anything could be ESD sensitive. Definitely no on MOSFETs. So what’s a good rule of thumb. No on anything with a PN junction? Diodes and LED included?

Semiconductors are the components that would be damaged by minor static voltages, resistors and capacitors are not normally in need of ESD protection. Some diodes may need precautions but not the power diodes.

Just got new containers from Aliexpress... must be a record got here in less than 10 days. Just having containers to organize resistors, caps, diodes is a great help when cranking out boards. Small gaps on the lids... not suggested for anything smaller than 0805... unless you can keep them upright.

the springloaded lid is cool.
