The function of metrics is obviation of assumption!
HP that's a good point:oops:!

While the load may be floating, the 'split' PSU is not! -- An 'asymmetrical' ground fault in an (ostensibly) floating load will result in unequal loading of the PSU 'channels' -- Said condition will not be obvious via the above described indicator...

For example -- Given a reading of 70 kV; Each channel may indeed be supplying |35|kV (as assumed) -OR- Due to unequal loading secondary to 'eccentric' ground leakage in the load, the channels may be supplying EMFs of disparate magnitudes - the sum of which equal 70kV
HP NOW I get it cuz I wasn't thinking on how unregulated independent psu outputs can load down to different voltages when currents are different:oops: So I say welcome to my abstract world of absolutes:D HP being serious you know I'm not that dumb! It's just that I'm still getting used to realm of EHT where power sources are so low current for their power level:oops::)

Many people are sensitized to latex.
HP That's very good point! I know ppl who can't touch it:eek:!

So I thought to start the readers off on 'solid footing' for the series as a whole!:)
HP That's fine with me but IDK where we're handling chemicals in rest of series:confused:?

HP I thought only blue nitrile was non porous enough for total safety?

Old proverb say: She who fish for compliment snag old boot!:p

There will be some solvent and adhesive 'work' in the balanced indicator 'micro tutorial' -- then too, I expect some readers may wish 'DIY' printed circuit boards (entailing exposure to 'resist', 'etching' and 'tinning' compounds). Thence, of course, in the fullness of time, dielectric oils, leaded shielding material including (not infrequently) emulsion 'slimed' leaded glass, etc... --- Point being chemical resistant barrier gloves are good to have on hand (pun intended;))

HP I thought only blue nitrile was non porous enough for total safety?
Aleph! please don't bet your life on the (ostensible) 'colour coding' of any manner of PPE! -- which being little more than a 'trademark' and less reliable! --- But to the 'gist' of your comment -- inasmuch we're dealing with neither pathogens nor methylated heavy metals, etc... - standard, 'home center grade' VOC/hydrocarbon barrier handwear will suffice!:)

All the best
HP:)

Ok, I've unsubscribed from every thread to which I've contributed 'political commentary' -- @Aleph(0), I suggest you do likewise such that we may get back to work on the tutorial following my return to the fora early next week:)

Very best regards
HP

PS @Aleph(0) To be clear -- While I concur with most of your political commentary (sans the 'over-drama') -- Preclusion of (apparent) nepotism compelled reticence as regards 'high fives' and 'likes'...:)

ATTN: @Aleph(0)

FWIW (IMO very, very little) I have, as per your suggestion, 'filled in' my profile -- Be advised, however, that's it! I'm not here to tender my autobiography!
Once again, I request that you complete the glossary prior to my 'return to schedule' -- Putting a finer point on it - should completion of the tutorial precede completion of the glossary I'm not gonna like it!:mad::mad:

Best regards
HP:cool:

HP It's like when you asked me to put my correct age in my profile and I did cuz like you said wrong age was causing confusion cuz my cultural expression and references were out of sync with my generation and like that.

So in same vein since you were correcting ppl for using wrong pronoun I say it's good that you're now saying your gender in profile:)!

HP, nice job on the tutorial!
Hi, @shortbus - I'm pleased you approve of the Micrometer 'tutorial':) -- 'Tho I must confess that I did not compose the photos/captions (My photographic skill [and/or imaging device] isn't 'there' Re: close-up focus) -- FWIW I found said 'lesson' in a random AOL download 'cache' from the mid 90'so_O -- I'm currently attempting to determine authorship such that I may give due attribution - failing which I'll attribute it to 'undetermined author'...

I felt many readers may be unfamiliar with operation of such mechanical/analogue instruments - I can but hope said post will be of assistance!

Many thanks and best regards

Please be advised that the addendum requires addition of Beckman and Barnhill curettes -- pre-incorporation! --- Additionally, I strongly suggest designation of (laparoscopic) bipolar 'graspers' as highly recommended equipment inasmuch as, quite despite JC's 'bright ideas', such are hardly substitutable with 'clawed retrieval tools' -- Bet hey! I have an open mind! Let's see you manipulate a piece of #40 AWG conductor with spring claws? --- you might make a believer of me yet:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Best regards

Hola Hp long time no post!

So how about the big election? I bet that little exposé that The Hildabeast and her staff are privately Anthropogenic Climate Change skeptics curried some favor with you? I share your outrage with the left's corruption and politicization of science but at least it's nice to know she (HRC) is NOT as dumb as she is corrupt!;) OMG! Abt The Donald! We're totally on the same page that the sexual misconduct accusations against him are totally fabricated but IMO he deserves every bit of it as bad karma for his libelous rants towards his primary opponents! I mean like trying to align Ted Cruz's dad with the JFK assassination:rolleyes: Maybe it was all a Russian plot?;):D (Disclaimer: Just a joke b/c I think the Russians are taking an undeserved bad rap from the current US administration and that embarrasses me to be an American right now!:() So that's abt it for politics b/c whomever wins, the Oval Office is guaranteed as good as vacant for another four years!

Say Hp, Aleph said you recently bought a set of Bicron scintillation probe modules for a Captus 2000? So I have two Bicron modules also from NM equipment but I don't know the exact system or manufacturer. Anyway one of my modules is marked 2m/2 and the other is 2mw2/2-x and they've both 14 pin bases and look pretty much alike. Are they the same as yours? Anyway plz share any info you have about them! I''m pumped to build a super sensitive Geiger counter (I know scintillators operate on a totally different principle than GM counters so sue me for being a lowly slave to conventional idiotspeak:oops:) So anyway I'm mostly interested in the ultimate dynode voltage and a pinout THANKS!

JC! --- Ok... Apart from stating the obvious (to wit: {Re: the above quoted text} I agree with everything you're saying) -- Please be advised - This thread is a 'designated politics free zone' Capiche?

Say Hp, Aleph said you recently bought a set of Bicron scintillation probe modules for a Captus 2000?
Correct

Anyway one of my modules is marked 2m/2 and the other is 2mw2/2-x and they've both 14 pin bases and look pretty much alike. Are they the same as yours?
Indeed! The part numbers are identical:)

Anyway one of my modules is marked 2m/2
2M/2 describes a module comprised of a 2" by 2" (solid NaI) 'crystal' coupled to a PMT featuring a 'window' diameter of 2"

and the other is 2mw2/2-x
The 'W' merely indicates that the 'crystal' features an 'end well'...

So anyway I'm mostly interested in the ultimate dynode voltage
Typical anode EMF = +900V

and a pinout
Here are the pin assignments (note that pin #12 is non-connected)
BicronPMT1.png

Here are the electrode EMFs as per typical application (note that the following assumes an anode EMF = 1kV -- Pursuant to greatest PMT 'life', good design practice will not exceed 900V)

Best regards

HP Not wanting to be an upstart but I say 950v is more typical cuz that's what Captus software defaults to:)!

Either 'get with it' or officially 'duck out'! -- I've had about enough of your absenteeism on a project you insisted upon joining!
HP if you think you can have reliable access with wifi signal strength of -87 dbm (which is like 2pW from onboard Mandelbrot array) be my guest! Cuz that's all I got for almost $600/night suite before amenities:mad:! I'm sry to all who are offended by what I'm saying here but The Big Apple is rife with worms and leaches and everything rude, gross and greedy! So silver lining is that I'm outta there:)! HP I can do glossary but it would be easier if you did outline cuz every time something changes I have to update everything:rolleyes:! It's just like debugging low level program for cpu without relative addressing:( HP I say you should just finish up tutorial with links to glossary under construction! Cuz it's good for morale to have major work done and be moving on to next chapter while I finish up glossary:)

I gotta know - Is Babs participating on these fora?
HP I thought you knew Babs has been on here at least a year:confused:? Anyhow I think JC needs a more cerebral tagline cuz substituting woodchuck with killdeer in elocution exercise is cute at first but it gets tedious after the five or six hundredth recitation:rolleyes:

Obtw, JC I agree with your political commentary too but like HP says politic speak is totally verboten on this thread:rolleyes:! So in a couple weeks we can forget about it for like 208 weeks:D

Are you people Government employee's? You've turned what started out to be an interesting thread/idea into a royal cluster f##k. No offense meant since it's your thread but come on :(

Hey @shortbus? I dunno:confused:? -- Seems we've been keeping it 'closer to topic' lately? --- I can tell you we've (Ahem..) I've been quite busy with the project 'behind the scenes', as it were - @Aleph(0) has only just returned from a 'business' junket - so she'll be getting back to work (on tutorial-related tasks) directly!:)

As for @Jazz2C ? Don't mind him! He's too busy with his (academic) studies (a good thing) to be more than an occasional visitor to the thread these days:cool:

Best regards
