HP good work:)! Now is done except bill of materials and warning abt fluoropolymer breakdown products, right?

HP I say glossary, instrument addendum and expansions should each be separate blog entries cuz they're easier to link that way? Now I'm saying not being able to link to within posts is a pita cuz readers have to look on whole thing to find what they want:( But good sorting order can help! HP are you totally sure there's no way of finer linking than just to posts?
I believe my very existence is the product of a fluoropolymmer breakdown of some kind.

The NEETS course is STILL the best comprehensive electronics course on the planet. It needs some updating and facelifting, but it is a genuine classic. I refer to it all the time.
I agree. A redacted version would be nice. There is no need for all administrative stuff that is probably on computer these days. I'll have to get to working on NEETS redacted. The book part would be time consuming, but so will creating the associated tests online. An ebook version would be nice to have.

@Aleph(0) -- It is now 3:20 UTC and I've not seen the least sign of the glossary! Seriously! I've had about enough of this! - Either you're in or not! - I'll survive quite nicely either way but I would know where you stand now!

I am bored to death of your insistence upon taking on tasks merely to drag your feet, lark about and make excuses! Moreover the Sill-log is a shambles and your outline of the balanced EHT indicator construction article looks as if it's had a bad experience with a 'teleporter'! -- Inasmuch as you are quite capable of much better I can only conclude your heart is not in it! - That's your 'bid' howbeit I'm bound to say I resent your insincerity and, frankly, deceit as regards this matter!

If you feel "I've got you all wrong" please don't make excuses just honor your spontaneous promises! -- Otherwise I'll see you around!

With utmost sincerity

HP you can accuse me of anything you like but don't ever call me deceitful! Cuz that's just totally wrong on so many levels and I won't stand for it!

HP We agreed that criticism w/o details of problem is useless so now you're doing it:mad:! So I say be constructive and tell me specific problem instead of just trashing!

I can only conclude your heart is not in it!
Yea right! That's why I've spent so much free time on this and you keep going on outings!

If you feel "I've got you all wrong"
HP I don't have to _feel_ you've got me wrong cuz I KNOW YOU DON'T CHECK YOUR EMAIL OR VOICEMAIL:mad:! How can I finish glossary when you didn't send me a raw copy of latest tutorial? Or did you expect me to come all 800 miles down there just for that cuz you can't be bothered to answer your f''ing phones or check CID or voicemail! HP I never blamed you for blocking all text messages from your phones but I say you can still look on e and voicemail!

HP I don't expect apology but I don't owe you one either!

@Hypatia's Protege ok so we move on:rolleyes:

HP I've been trying to solve phosphor problem according to your advice but I'm totally stuck:oops:!

So I constructed differential equation to find function describing excited dimer population but I just keep going in circles trying to solve it! HP I know I'm not seeing something obvious but knowing that isn't helping right now:(! Also I'm keeping it simple by slating out metastability and applying basic assumptions! So plz give me just a hint cuz this is just stupid!

ok so we move on:rolleyes:
Good deal...

Gladly! If you'll tell me how it is that an individual of your aptitude and accomplishment can't manage to solve a separable equation sans a 'guiding hand'?!:rolleyes:

cuz this is just stupid!
Stupid? No -- Lazy? possibly -- Overthought? Absolutely!

So now that you've had today's fundamental math exercise shall we move on to humanities? Let's start with 'see spot run' or, better yet, 'see Aleph run from topic':rolleyes::rolleyes:

Lemme tell ya -- you could greatly enhance the 'presentability' of both documents (and soooo much more) were you to merely abandon your inexplicable habit of substituting quotation marks with underscore characters!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

HP I don't have to _feel_ you've got me wrong cuz I KNOW YOU DON'T CHECK YOUR EMAIL OR VOICEMAIL:mad:
Aleph! You are well aware of my stance on the subject of '24/7 connectedness' -- 'alien' though such may be to your generation's communal sensibilities (sorry! I call 'em like I see 'em!) --- That said, a post (would you believe?) here would have solved matters! -- Moreover, you know how to reach me 'live' at any time in regards to urgent or otherwise time-critical matters! --- Thus, granting that I am not entirely blameless - I nonetheless assert that you are the one in search of a 'scapegoat'

Sincerely all the best
HP:)

PS
To be clear I am genuinely aware that your extreme distaste for communalism/collectivism is on a par with my own! --- My remark (above) was merely by way of drawing your attention to the fact that you (and, indeed, all of us) must endeavor to descry --to the end of abandonment of-- 'generationally socialized' behaviour which being contrary your better nature...

HP You're right abt that! So I've got it:)
I should hope so!:rolleyes::)

Ok, I've copied the 'Instrument Addendum' to my blog (with a few minor edits) howbeit I've yet to include a monition in regards to potential hazards attendant to 'open stock' (as previously discussed in post #498) -- Please have a look at said blog entry with the aim of proofing/recommendation... Ditto for the expansion list!

Best regards

HP I it's too hard to give sugestions when proofreading addendum w/o my own copy. Anyhow I can't see any obvious problems:)

Now here's suggestions to add to abbreviation list:

HP since a lot electronics ppl will think of FCC just as regulatory authority but not substance grade like you use it in addendum I say you should expand them like this:
FCC: Federal Communications Commission or Food Chemical Codex

Also since it's not electrical engineering term:
USP: United States Pharmacopeia

Also
OTC: Over The Counter (which means healthcare products for unregulated sale) cuz otherwise ppl might think it means "one time" something! (Be happy cuz I used proper quote marks:D!)

And
AWG: American Wire Gauge cuz it's not standard outside US also I say glossary should mention that there are sizes smaller than 40 (which are 42, 44, 46 and 48) cuz web resources are brain dead on that subject:confused:

Also I totally agree with you that bipolar transistor polarities (which are NPN and PNP) should be described from each other as just "polarity" instead of "gender" like in stupid CRC publication:rolleyes: So I say when they can breed their transistors then they've earned right to make silly parallel:D

I also agree that connectors should never be called male and female cuz its silly and sometimes ambiguously confusing like with D connectors it all depends what features you're making parallels to:confused: So I say describing totally inanimate objects with anatomical analogies is just lame:rolleyes:

HP Sry I have to quit so early 2night but you know how that goes:( So I hope I helped you out cuz it's not fair you're doing most of the work but I guess you knew that's how it would be from get go:oops:

Indeed! It appears to be a matter of 'what the standard don't know - the vendor understands':confused::confused:

Also I totally agree with you that bipolar transistor polarities (which are NPN and PNP) should be described from each other as just "polarity" instead of "gender" like in stupid CRC publication:rolleyes:
Are you certain you saw that in a CRC publication? My general impression of their 'handbooks', etc... has been quite favorable...

So I say when they can breed their transistors then they've earned right to make silly parallel:D
Thus it would seem an IGBT is a cross between a BJT and a MOSFET:D

I also agree that connectors should never be called male and female cuz its silly and sometimes ambiguously confusing like with D connectors it all depends what features you're making parallels to
Absolutely! -- That said nomenclature is in such wide use stands as ample testimony to the veracity of the axiom: "Create something even an idiot can appreciate and everybody is stuck with it!" -- You may rest assured that the tutorial series will be 'marvelously free' of such 'drollery':D:D:D

HP Sry I have to quit so early 2night but you know how that goes:(
Indeed! I know exactly how it is! -- Hence my strict policy of 24/7 operation of my Generac sd500s during 'unsettled' or otherwise 'equivocal' conditions:rolleyes: -- I find it both inexplicable and, frankly, highly annoying that, following more than a century's technical 'maturation' - anything approaching reliable electrical distribution is yet unavailable:mad:

Well hey!:) --- Many thanks for the additions! -AND- your maintenance of a cooperative attitude following my Um... 'bad day':oops::oops:

Very best regards
HP:)

PS
(Be happy cuz I used proper quote marks:D!
I knew you could do it if you tried;););):)

@Aleph(0) , @Jazz2C et al.

I've composed and added the 'bill of required materials & recommended tools' to the tutorial (said text reproduced below for your convenience).
Please advise me of any errors or omissions (I've got a creepy feeling I've missed something:eek:)

Many advance thanks
HP:)

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Required materials:
Note: the quantities/dimensions cited below represent those necessary for completion of the modification - Minimum purchase requirements (while reasonable) will, in most cases, be significantly greater...

Acetone -- QTY: 946ml ‘tin’
Acrylic based hot-melt compound – Example: Surebonder Acrylstik - QTY: 100g
CPVC tubing (3/4” Nom. id CTS) --- QTY 120mm (lineal)
Electronics grade RTV Silicone -- Example: GC 19-155 – QTY: 90 ml
Polyolefin heat shrink sleeves -- Example: Gardner Bender HST-750 – QTY: Three untreated 4” {102mm} sleeves
Polypropylene pharmaceutical vial ( ~33mm Dia, ~64mm Len.)
PTFE sheet stock – Example: http://www.eplastics.com/Plastic/ptfe_sheet -- QTY: 100mm x 60mm rectangle of 0.093” {2.35mm} stock and 40mm x 20mm rectangle of 0.015” {0.381mm} stock

Hardware:
#4 solder lug (‘inside-tooth’ fastener surface)
#4 { ≈7/64” ≈3mm} bit
#4 nut and bolt
#6 {0.83mm} burr or bit

Recommended implements:
Note 1: The reader is assumed to be in possession of standard electronics/basic ‘hand’ - tools...
Note 2:
The reader is advised that 'workarounds'/'alternates' are possible for the following - please let us know should you have any questions...

⇒Digital caliper -- Example: Grainger 29AD39
⇒Dremel moto-tool or Equivalent
⇒Locking forceps
⇒Micrometer
(1"; 0.0001" 'resolution')
⇒Scalpels or 'X-ACTO' set
⇒Sims Uterine Curette (#3 sharp, fenestrated) -- Example: Sklar 90-5423
⇒Stainless Picks (non-magnetic)
⇒Tweezers (‘splinter’)
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

PS
HP I say another good idea is to think about expansions for some types of test gear cuz there are multiple names for some instruments that can differ depending on location (Like SA instead of FDO and O'scope instead of TDO and like that) plus all the variations on the _scope_ theme like MDO, MSO, DPO, DSO, ASO, CRO plus variants by sampling algorithm and so on! And it's not just scopes! So think abt it cuz it would totally suck to chase someone away for want of equipment probably sitting right there on their lab table by another name:(!
Good call! -- By way of 'maintenance of momentum' I'll add them as the instruments are introduced:)

I've got a creepy feeling I've missed something:eek:
HP It looks good to me except for rubber bands or some sort of non metallic clamp for assembling core and frame. Also heat resistant gloves for ungluing hot frame. So I'll keep thinking on it too:)

Many thanks for the additions! -AND- your maintenance of a cooperative attitude following my Um... 'bad day':oops::oops:
HP That's ok! I saw through that cuz I have days like that too:rolleyes::)

Done! -- Thank you!

Below is an 'excerpt' reflecting the latest edits (including your suggestions) -- Please let me know if I've missed anything else!

Many thanks!
