DS2Y-S-DC5V Relay Not Working

I just recently purchased a relay, DS2Y-S-DC5V, and am using it for a collegiate project.

Per the data sheet found on Mouser, https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/315/mech_eng_ds2y-1299327.pdf, it should be switching around 70% of the nominal 5V correct? I am not sure if I am reading this data sheet correctly or not.

Steps I’ve taken:
- I have applied 5V at Pin1 and Ground at Pin 16.
- I have another 5V source at Pin13
- I have a 5k resistor to ground at Pin9 and Pin11 for measurements
- I have my multimeter measuring the voltage at Pin9 and am getting 1mV
- I have my multimeter at Pin11 and am getting 5V

Not sure why the relay is not switching from Pin11 to Pin9. Any recommendations?

Did you try supplying the coil and test continuity across the N.O. and N.C. contacts and see if it is switching?
You can also usually feel it by placing it between fingers.
The hysterisis of that kind of relay it should normally be switching on at the 60% 70% voltage level.

The coil is also marked for polarity.
Generally the only reason for this is a BEMF diode is internal.

Correct.

Are you sure your meter is not measuring the ground side of the resistor?

Measure the DC resistance of the coil. Is it close to the datasheet spec?
