Hi all,

My name's Jim and I'm a hobbyist ham radio operator. The project I've just started is to convert an old ATX power supply into a variable voltage supply. I've located the ic's numbers and have been trying to locate data sheets so iIcan identify the pin outs but I cannot find any information on the internet. I'm possibly looking in the wrong place. The ic numbers are UTC3845D, UTC7608D. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be ever so grateful.

Hacking a PC power supply is not a project for a newbie. In fact a experienced person would be well advised to just buy a variable supply. If you want to use your PC for fixed voltages (you have a number of them) then great. But forget about making the supply variable. Not worth risking electrocuting yourself and/or burning your house down. The project would likely not work anyway.

 

Completely agree with spinnaker's points and suggestions.

As for the ICs you are trying to track down, you may not be able to. They are probably either custom parts or commercial parts that have been custom labeled specifically to make the design harder to reverse engineer.

Hi all and thank you for all your concerns, I maybe a newbie here but not to electronics, being a ham radio license holder I've built many transievers and hi output linears so I'm fully aware of the risks. I was just struggling to find the datasheet for these two particular ic's, I'm all sorted now so thanks.to all.

 

I hope you work it out ok. We do get some folks here that want to
undertake some really frightning projects with absolutly no understanding so we try to impress the safety side of things. Some of the questions are quite scary!

I know and thanks for the concern. There are people who really shouldn't be let near anything . Lots of research before starting anything I'm unsure of.
