Coronavirus?!

Besides vitamin D supplementation, melatonin has been suggested as having benefits for a Covid19 immune response. Interestingly, both compounds appear to be related in that sunlight may be a factor in their production and/or function.

Melatonin Could Potentially Treat COVID-19 (webmd.com)
"Suggested" does not mean "actually does". A single preliminary study is pretty meaningless. One researcher recently proposed that wearing a crystal amulet worked to treat Covid19.

NOT an actual doctor or researcher! His YouTube bio says he's a retired nurse teacher.
Teaching nursing at the university level requires Masters Degree so a person having their BS Nursing completes their Masters and can then teach it. While I have tremendous respect for any RN and those who get their Masters and go on to teach nursing it's a far cry from being a doctor let alone a doctor who specializes in infectious disease. Pretty good difference in formal schooling there. I guess the problem I see with COVID and the entire field of medicine is too many conflicting opinions even among those who specialize in infectious disease. Most of what we read is opinion so just choose the one you like and run with it I guess.

Uranium is natural, too.
You're missing the point. Healthy human bodies have cellular machinery that produce vitamin D. And melatonin. They are part of healthy human biology. Amulets, like uranium, not so much.

In attempting to construct a logical argument, one should appeal to facts, not experts.
So if the doctor gives you some diagnosis based on tests, x-rays, mri's, etc....you ask to see all the information on how those processes work, how the tests were performed, indeed how chemical analysis and biological process function instead of trusting the experts?

Ummm....yes?

Agreed, and it's not really a slam against the parchment.

No one on Earth has a greater interest in the outcome than the patient, and the patient MUST be an advocate for themselves or have someone fill that role. Doctors are pay-for-service (visits, tests, procedures) and NOT pay-for-outcome (patient health and longevity). They can be great people on average but have a set of incentives and concerns that don't overlap completely with those of the patient. Mostly, they simply don't have the time to be perfectionists. And they may not even have the skill in some cases. They generally don't know jack about nutrition, for instance.

It's like the guy that lays tile in your kitchen or paints your house. They're experts at getting these jobs done efficiently and fast. The perfectionists either find a niche with customers that will pay top dollar or they quickly get priced out of the market. I can do both chores better than the pros I've hired, but they do in a day what would take me a week. I'm watching some tree-service guys in my yard right now, thinking how glad I am to not be doing that job myself.

And I am looking at my siding that I did myself (took 4 months) and thinking how happy I am that I did it. And how happy I am that I decided to fix rotten door sill myslef ad well (taking awhile though)...

Be careful with the medical professionals. I brought down a new monitor to our ER with a user manual only to be told that they want me to show them what to do because they will not read the manual - too busy watching you tube. These are the unsung hospital heroes...

Ummm...wrong.

Do you know everything there is to know about chemistry, biology, engineering, and everything else that goes into the things we benefit from in modern society? No, you don't. You and everyone else rely on experts all the time.
