There are many reasons for the failure of a marriage, and many of these are incomprehensible. I hope you aren’t making a generalization, because victims of spousal abuse don’t deserve to be put into a pocket. Their marriage failed because of one or more types of abuse, that often culminated in physical abuse. The worst are cases of gaslighting where the abuser tells the victim and his friends that the victim abused the abuser - with no evidence other than the abuser’s word. In this case, suicide is the preferred solution of the victim.

UPDATE:
Not all states are leaving K-12 schools open. There are at least 14 states where all public schools are closed.

I mistakenly thought that Massachusetts had closed all K-12 schools. Apparently, it is a city/ town decision.

The city where my sister takes care of our parents had closed their schools. I am very happy. She is a 2nd grade teacher. And my parents are at risk, as they are about 89 years old and Dad has lung cancer.

Schools have always been petri dishes of infection. Measles, Mumps, and Mubella aka MMR. Hundreds of thousands of American children a year contracted those diseases when I was a kid. They got sick, and it was no fun but kids developed immunity.

Most schools are scheduled for 2 or 3 weeks of downtime during the normal spring break time frame. We will see how many reopen on schedule as proper precautions (compartmentalization, young teachers, specific PPE, etc ...) are put in place to continue the school year.

Unless it's bubonic plague bad we acclimate, we are social animals.

Pretty well all the countries they have plots for are experiencing a doubling in the number of cases roughly each 3 days, and at that rate in 30 days we will have a 1000 fold increase. I suspect that's what's scaring those in power into drraconian measures, because at that rate pretty well all the western countries will have a higher infection reate than Italy currently has - and that's overwhelmed the health system.

Japan's an outlier - look at the infections/million population. Maybe it's a lack of testing (their rates are low like the US), or maybe it's their habits (they don't handshake or kiss, but bow, and wearing masks when sick is the norm).

In Glynn County, there are currently NO CONFIRMED COVID19 cases. BUT please keep in mind that VERY FEW people have been tested in this area [I don’t have exact numbers but best guess is <20]

TESTING:
Currently, test kits are very limited. At this point in Glynn Country, testing is NOT performed if patients have mild or no symptoms. I predict this will be changing rapidly and I will continue to update you as information becomes more available



WHAT SYMPTOMS DO I WATCH FOR..?
As the pollen is blooming, allergy symptoms are going to be appearing which further complicate the situation. This chart is a ROUGH guide but it should help clarify symptoms of COVID19 vs Flu vs Cold vs Good Ole’ South Georgia Allergies.

My Advice:
“THE BEST DEFENSE is a GOOD OFFENSE”

WASHING HANDS- “Happy Birthday Song” sung TWICE while rubbing all sides of your hands in lather gives you the full 20 seconds required to kill those germs . [When that gets old the first verse of “Stayin’ Alive also does the trick]
Hand sanitizers (60-90% alcohol) [hard to find these days] are second to washing with soap. When using hand sanitizer, apply the product to the palm of one hand (read the label to learn the correct amount) and rub the product all over the surfaces of your hands until your hands are dry.

When do I wash..?- at a minimum.. anytime you go from outside to inside, before you eat, and before you spend time with those more vulnerable to effects of the disease or anytime you touch your face.


SOCIAL DISTANCING:
The “why” behind it— it is to lower the pace and extent of the spread of COVID-19 in a city/community so as not to stress the healthcare system. With fewer people with the disease, there will be less of a burden on the healthcare system and fewer people requiring hospitalization and ventilators at one time.

-Stay 6 feet from others when possible
-Avoid gatherings more than 12 people
-No hugs/no handshakes

I have had questions asking advice about going to more essential places such as doctor’s appointments, grocery store’s etc. I think everyone needs to use good judgement. If you are sick- stay home. If you feel well, stay 6 feet away from people if possible. When in public, don’t touch your face or mouth. Limit contact with door knobs and handles [any hard surface]. Wash your hands well when you get home and/or use hand sanitizer immediately upon leaving the building.





HOUSEHOLDS WITH VULNERABLE SENIORS OR THOSE WITH SIGNIFICANT UNDERLYING CONDITIONS: [FROM CDC]
-Have the healthy people in the household conduct themselves as if they were a significant risk to the person with underlying conditions. For example, wash hands frequently before interacting with the person, such as feeding or caring for the person

The detected cases are doubling roughly every 3 days. How this is related to the real number, of course, is dependent on the effectiveness of the testing. This is a remarkably common characteristic across these countries though. The study you quote was based on data up to Jan 25 in Wuhan, it may be right.

There are many variables that can skew the numbers. Data from China and the countries that were affected early give a more complete picture of the curve.

In the US, you can't believe any numbers. Most areas will only do a test if the person is sick enough to require admission to a hospital. People who are seemingly well, or not very sick, are only able to get tested if they have connections (basketball players, politicians, Colorado, etc).

How is it that Colorado (with about 100 cases) can institute drive by testing, when Washington (the worst hit) and California can't? Even New York is only doing drive by testing in their hot spot.

Once the US starts doing widespread testing, the infection rate will soar.

Ohio started the drive through testing yesterday, you need a letter from a doctor sort of like a prescription for the test.

The young, less than 40, will revolt to the lock-down. I just don't see them giving up a life-style for more than a few weeks to save us boomers. For them it's a clear and calculated decision to chance it on the odds nothing bad will happen to THEM.

 

The good ole boys from Chatanooga that went around and bought out all the hand sanitizer from all the stores within a 100+ mile radius and tried to sell it for 10X plus on Amazon and got booted are now in deep doo-doo with the TN attorney general. Plus they have 17,000+ bottles of sanitizer they can't sell since they were ordered to cease and desist or be arrested.
