Incentives worked until about 70% vaccinated. If delta didn't exist (With a R0 unchecked close to double digits) we would likely be sitting pretty right now with minimal restriction and no mandates. I managed to pull off my summer vacation right in the cases low sweet spot of few restrictions from Oregon to California, it was great but you could see the delta variant wave building into today's peaks even then. It's extremely likely another wave will happen unless we increase the levels of vaccination to get R0 below 1. The high R0 is driving the need for these mandates to reduce transmission. People are not doing this because they hate freedom and love restrictions, it's happening because the virus is forcing our hand. IMO it would negligent not to act this way.Right, so incentivize. Everything doesn't have to be a dick-waving, in-your-face reminder that your freedom is a paper-thin augmentation of reality.
Right, lose their job. Not their income, their job. Have to get drug tested if you want to work for your keep. Why do these authoritarian shows of power always disproportionately effect the working person? Can't there be a way to put in place a measure that applies to everyone equally? Or if not, at least one that doesn't go straight for the nuts of the people fueling the whole economy? Maybe an incetiv.... never mind, no, that's obviously stupid. The carrot never works. Only the stick. Always the stick. All hail the stick!

The reproductive number of the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 is far higher compared to the ancestral SARS-CoV-2 virus
The freedom to pretend 'You are an Island' is microscopic when the reality is macroscopic.A high reproductive number also means that much higher vaccine coverage rates need to be achieved compared to the originally assumed 60–70% vaccine coverage for the ancestral strain. A reproductive number of 5 would mean that vaccine coverage rates above 80% will be needed based on the equation q = 1–1/R0, assuming a 100% vaccine efficacy. However, with decreasing vaccine effectiveness associated with the Delta variant,6 vaccine coverage rates above 90% will need to be achieved to contain Delta outbreaks. Fortunately, vaccine effectiveness against severe disease remains relatively maintained, while mild-to-moderate breakthrough infections in vaccinated persons have increased as the result of the emergence of the Delta variant.
This is a capitalist country not a workers paradise like communism.
