are smt mlcc or tantalum capacitors fine for filtering 1-2 Mhz dc boost converter output?

 

Should probably be fine if they are rated for the ripple current. It is also a good idea to shunt them with low value good quality, low ESR ceramic capacitors to catch the real high frequency edges.
