Animals do exhibit the kind of ownership you are referring to (I think). For instance, some will stake out a home (den, burrow, whatever) and that is THEIR home. A more short-term and obvious example is, "This is MY food."

But even in looking at dogs you can see behaviors that indicate ownership, such as of toys. Our current new idiot has a couple of toys that she has claimed ownership of and the existing idiot (who outweighs her by a factor of three or four) gets snarled at and barked at if she messes with it. Since the big dog is a wuss, it's not an issue. All other toys she couldn't care less, but those two toys are flat hers and she even gets ansy if I pick it up (though she learned very early in our relationship that I am NOT a wuss and that discretion is sometimes the better part of valor). What she hasn't figured out is the notion of hiding them -- something the dog I had a couple decades ago new how to do very well (and she remembered where she hid things even when her opportunity to go fetch them was delayed by years). I didn't think of it until years later, so I'm not positive, but there seemed be a consistent set of objects that she hid away and I got to wondering later if those were the objects that she saw as "hers".

You are talking about resource guarding and it is not the same as ownership. Neither is territory.

We have taken the concept of safety and security to a whole other level... Do we see animals expanding their territory to beyond what they need? That would exhaust them. We have developed a concept of money and pride ourselves in working 100 hours a week to pay for our posessions. But guess what? It is all the same in the end.

The carbon tax is just, shall we say, "the last straw". The protests in France goes much deeper than that. It is a protest against the austerity and the attack on the social system by the EU oligarchy.

I don't wish to avoid gas guzzling SUVs -- except insofar as not to stand in front of a moving one.

In fact, I own two of them.

Are you suggesting I should pay the transportation costs of those who do not wish to drive SUVs -- in addition to the cost of the obscene amounts of fuel consumed by my SUVs and the obscene cost of the SUVs themselves?

And, why are SUVs the only option, other than public transportation? Do they not make those cheap little Japanese sedans anymore? The ones I like to call "steel coffins"? How about Vespas for everyone?

There are lots of taxes I'd like to protest. Unfortunately, I work for a living, so I don't have the time to protest.

 

What will the environmentalist do now? They have the politicians, governments, education, big business, billionaires, the press, social networks, and the gullible young.

I have been watching the riots in France for 3 weeks. Hardly a peep about it hear.

The more media we get......the more omission and one sided it is.

Funny how that turned out. News and events have to be colored for blame and accusation.

Fear and urgency is the favorite color now. And it's the people's bigotry the prevents the elitist's solutions.
