Blocking someone from your own thread

Let's say I start a thread with a legitimate question. Never mind the question, but let's assume it doesn't violate the TOS. And let's assume that I know someone who will come and try to annoy the hell out of me for asking said question (hasn't happened to me yet, but I've seen third-party examples out there)

Is there a way to block someone from seeing/answering my thread if I want to?

I doubt it.

I don't know how preventing a particular member from seeing your thread would work out, but I sure know what the result would be of blocking him from posting to it: the discussion board equivalent of thermonuclear war.

Imagine seeing this message when attempting to post: "User XXX has blocked you from replying to this thread."

Oh, boy...

I forgot to add, that the thread should be invisible to that particular user as well.

The only way to make your Thread invisible to a member is to have that member, "Ignore" you.
I can't see any Threads started by Ignored members, no matter who did the most recent post.

You can ask a person to please Ignore you, but you can't blind them from your side.
You can blind yourself by Ignoring a member. I find several Threads much more pleasant when I can't see the sniping and rudeness of some members. Some Threads seem to have at least two conversations going on at once because Ignored members are invisibly prattling away in between the posts of the other conversation.

One seemingly insurmountable problem is that you can't Ignore a Moderator in software, no matter how pedantic and condescending they are. You can ask a Moderator to delete irrelevant or rude posts in any Thread by anybody. The Moderators are usually good about responding to such requests. You can't always get what you want, but if your objection is valid, usually you can.

I hear ya! -- I've long held that "hide my posts from my enemies" makes much more sense than "hide my enemy's posts from me"o_O:confused: -- Granting that 'enemy' is, perhaps, a bit 'strong' - there it is...

That said, I feel both features (i.e. the suggested 'selective invisibility feature' and the present 'ignore feature') are antithetical to public fora!o_O:( -- Misbehaved posters are what 'discipline' under the UA/TOS is for - Whereas private threads are the function of the PM feature:cool:

Very best regards
HP:)

Seriously now... I now realize that maybe my suggestion isn't practical, if not worse... guess we'll just have to do with the ignore list best we can
