The current generation seems to have left some of that behind on the superficial social level. Being (or at least trying to be) culturally Japanese is a big factor if you live there. It's not a multicultural society by any means but after working for a Japanese company (Fujitsu) for 10 years I saw them adapting quickly to a changing world because they had no choice.

You can look like a 'Black' man but be very Japanese.
