Ignorance kills ... I've seen plenty of cases of people that, once they make up their mind about some fictitious fact, will not listen to reason. Even if you were to show them irrefutable evidence against their beliefs.

A friend of a friend got back from a flight. Got the car from the airport paring lot. Driving home he noticed the car driving a bit odd but chalked it up to driving a rental car all week. Pulled in front of the house to unload family luggage. Made a couple of trips to the car. On the second or third trip it hit him. It wasn't his wheeels on thar car. Not even the tires. At least the thieves were kind enough to swap out wheels with inflated tires.
