Not precisely weird but surely unusual for most of you, if not all (me included).

Known locally as "palo borracho" (drunk stick?) or "árbol botella" (bottle tree) classified as ceiba chodii or maybe ceiba speciosa. It is a peremnial variety and in pratice lives many decades in normal conditions. Young ones look like this:



When its fruits ripen, they open, exhibiting a silky fiber, used until maybe 50 years ago, to fill pillows and small mattresses.



With time they become big and heavy, like this weighing 20 metric tons



With an extreme diameter of around 3,5 meters it was laid down on the platform of a 40' flat rack on bags full of rags surrounded with carpentry to keep it stable.



After a careful wrapping (you really need to know what to do there) we did the laborious securing to ensure a safe arrival. OK to ship.



After a 45 days transit it happily arrived to destination.

Now I realize that I have never seen / heard of a serrated one. Wood is dense; that is for sure.

I will ask some questions to find out.

Ceiba, the tree referred to above, belongs to the malvacae which includes the cotton plant, the cocoa tree, the hibiscus and the hollyhock among others.
