And now for something weird...

"...I wanted to finally clear my conscience."

I've met several retirees that had the same mentality. Now that their lives settled down, they wanted to settle old debts before they passed.
At least they've kept a sense of right and wrong, which seems to be quite scarce nowadays...

t=√(2d/g) = ~27 seconds for d=4000'(converted to meters) i.e. Plenty of time to regret his decision to jump off... Going to hell in a hurry so I hope he enjoyed the ride.
If you take into account air resistance, I think it must have been significantly longer than that.

I just gave it the south gawga guesstimate ignoring such things as friction, impact with buzzards, and terminal velocity. No need to get picky, the details just slow you up and he was in a hurry to get it all over with anyway!

There are lots of variables including air density which in turn varies with temp and other niceties such as frontal area, shape, and surface roughness. I had to deal with them calculating surface pressure on structures subjected to hurricane force constant and gust wind velocities to prevent knockdown or overturn when I had building and tanks to design and contract out for construction.

My grandfather grew up in a small town in Western Ukraine. He told me a story from his youth when he was tasked with shepherding his family's geese. Of course he had plenty of other things he wanted to do, so he would feed the geese poppy petals and they'd fall asleep freeing him up to do whatever.

He never did tell me what trouble he got into while the geese were asleep.
