I was setting up a hyper link to put in my index . There was a bit of a experiment going on, I am still fighting the brain fog. It will apply in the Completed Projects Index. People will not notice this thread much. Let me guess, you have it watched?

I'm watching this thread for the same reason as any other thread I'm watching -- because I replied to it at some point and I'm set to automatically watch any such thread. I almost never unwatch a thread -- don't have to since most die a natural death in a reasonable time frame. I think I've explicitly unwatched three threads since I've been a member and explicitly chose to watch about the same number of threads that I hadn't replied to (though I think all but one of those was so that I could keep an eye on it as a moderator).

I may be misunderstanding what you mean when you say this will apply in the Complete Projects Index -- are you saying that the link to THIS thread will be put into that index? Or just that you are playing around with the general ins and outs of thread links for the purpose of using what you learn on that index? I'm guessing you mean the latter. If that's the case, a non-public forum might be a better sandbox.

 

No my brain has major issues processing Hyper linked BB codes such as is used in the Index, so I am trying smaller bytes to see if it goes better.I doubt my core problems are going to improve, I just have to come up with different approaches to handle them.

I am measurably less capable than I used to be. but I still want to pull my weight around here.

I havr more than one index, an oddity of how my mind works I suppose.

At the end of each year, my company's InterNet search team goes on the hunt for plagiarised circuits and articles. We have just acquired some software that checks websites on the InterNet for copy cats, as well as searching out contributors to list on Patent Application. I don't usually do this essential work.

Our search team is Vietnamese women who wouldn't know a Bill or Wendy from a bowl of beef pho. It was only because of our new software flagging your previous articles prior to All About Circuits that I drilled down on the question.

Wendy/Bill Marsden has been an inspirational source for anyone, including ourselves, for many, many, years.

It takes a brave person to announce to the public, especially in Texas 'the home of rugged cowboys'.

I appreciate the fact that your circuits don't turn to microprocessors for solutions. I had a chuckle a way back when one of our software guys proudly announced he had condensed some software to generate a 'Dongggg' tone. I showed the guy how I, now a senior, could duplicate the tone using two components!

Several people have expressed displeasure with transgendered people like me. They do not believe the numbers, something I like to say is facts do not care if you believe them or not. Here are some of the numbers:

41% attempted suicide rate.
37.5% will suffer violence in their lifetimes. 2.2 times more likely than most people.

the only reason I am still here is my brother committed suicide 1999 and I finished raising his kids. Just about the time I was ready to do myself in I realized that I could not do that to my kids again. It is what keeps me alive during this time when life has gotten very hard.

I thought about calling out the names of the people who made the snarky comments. But had supper first and realized that would be over the top. I figured there is a 50% chance no no matter how good the information is they will not change their minds. Just like we will not allow racism on this site we will not allow trans or gay bashing either. Members have been banned for anti Chinese rants. I did not have to take action in either case as the other moderators have my back.

Wendy or Bill really matters not to me. I place more stock in the individual than I do gender and it really matters not to me which gender you choose to identify with. Your progress since your announcement has been nothing short of great. You have overcome some serious obstacles and health issues. Just keep on pressing forward and pushing yourself. Your contributions not just here but in life in general are important.

Exactly! They scream about free speech when they use theirs to bring people down with their hatred. It get's tiring, I generally ignore them because few if any genuinely want their opinion changed.

That is what all of society is and does. I think of a society as a group of people united in an agreed upon collection of values, with most of them being completely arbitrary, inconsistent, and illogical, and the adherents of which are usually unable to coherently explain why they espouse said values. All of us are hypocrites.

That is the conclusion I come back to every time I pick another social debate to mull over in my mind, testing my views against other views, playing devils advocate in internal dialog. It is hard to discuss the existence of this flagrant and omnipresent hypocrisy without triggering someone or another because these are usually hot button issues and nobody wants to acknowledge their own hypocrisy especially when they have their identity heavily invested in it. Race, religion, politics, LGBT, abortion, capital punishment; any of these would be excellent examples if it were possible to discuss the entrained hypocrisy in the topic without making (or seeming to make) an argument on the topic itself.

The topic I use most often, the one that seems most clear and least inflammatory in my experience to use an example, is the topic of animal cruelty. I think I have set this up well enough that I shouldn't have to express the caveat "I'm not advocating animal cruelty, but..." but I'll do it anyway: I'm not advocating animal cruelty, but... Why is it ok to kill mice but not horses? Why is it ok to feed live crickets to a lizard but feeding live kittens to a dog would be sick and twisted? Who drew the lines between nuisance animals, food animals, and pets? Why are these arbitrary moral judgements given legal teeth? We feel mostly unanimously in agreement with these rules about animals because we were brought up with them, we don't question them. But do they really make sense? Are they not actually just a big pile of double standard nonsense?

I'll say it again, All of us are hypocrites. All of us hold double standards. All of us are human. All of us make judgements about others based on appearance, diction, etc. It's in our nature. Anyone who claims to uphold blanket acceptance of others' views is either liar or has never done any meaningful measure introspection. The "I accept everyone for who they are" sermon of virtue signaling ends the moment the preacher encounters someone whose views condemn their own.

There is something our community (the trans community) called the broken arm syndrome. You go to the ER with a broken arm, and the doctor will say I have no idea how to treat you. You're different. When all you need is your broken arm set. I ran into that when I had my stroke. I lost control over my urinary tract, the doctor tried to claim it was because of the modifications, even though I had had no trouble before the stroke. Sometimes being different can be deadly.

Unfamiliar with this quote, I first googled "Kenneth W. Thompson" and found nothing but news articles about a scientologist who axe-murdered his wife. I did not find anything pointing to a reason why his words would be worthy quoting so I googled the quote itself "Hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue" and found it attributed to Francois Duc De La Rochefoucauld ("Hypocrisy is a tribute that vice pays to virtue").

What am I missing? Is there a joke I'm not seeing or do I have the wrong Kenneth W. Thompson or is it an accidental misattribution or??

Well now that you've mentioned it, so do I! My particular flavor of levity doesn't even always come across right in person, so from across the internet I should probably expect miscommunication. I didn't mean to offend.

Come on guys, when have I got offended by casual humor? Being where I am in life, a sense of humor is one of the few things that keeps me going. And I like to laugh at myself more than most.
