i'm thinking about this scheme to control a clock signal:

i'm not sure if this is the way to do it.. am i controlling the 4051 correctly?

following this truth table, i seem to be feeding the 4051 correct 1's depending on which count i am at on the 4017, but it all looks so strange to me...

(i should just breadboard and find out, i know)....

 

hi NB,
You cannot link the 4017 outputs together.
Use logic gates or steering diodes in order to combine the outputs to A,B,C.

super cool... thanks.. i had a feeling diodes would be necessary in this case

 

Also, all unused inputs (reset, enable, inhibit, whatever) must be dealt with. Tie them to Vdd / GND as appropriate.
