Flukes are good meters. Very robust and safe.

What kind of meter do you have and have you traced the current input?

Go from the current input and do ohms check and keep going until you find an open. It goes through the fuse and whatever protection circuitry that one has through the selector switch to the chip. So trace the path.

Which model?

Is it real or counterfeit?

Here is a quote from the applicable warranty, "return the unit to point of purchase with a description of the problem."

OK, so there will be no warranty. That may not bother many people since Fluke is high quality.

Axtman (posts #1 & 6 in link) claims they are not imported into the US by the OEM. It could be held up in US customs, but likely will get through. China exports to US are under a bit tighter scrutiny now. You may also be required to pay a duty. See: http://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/...ing+Section+301+Duties+on+ChineseOrigin+Goods (BTW, Jones Day is one of the largest American law firms).

Multimeters are covered in those lists:

So, it looks like a pretty good price, but there may be some hangups.

Usually duty based on the sales price. I’ve never seen an accurate sales price on my shipments. Sometimes it states. Gift, sample or undervalued... either way the duty would be up to shipper because if it doesn’t arrive you get a refund. I have gotten a number of things for free because of few reasons.

So risk to buyer is you might not get it but you can get refund.

1 they sent me wrong plug for US market. Unless it’s marked in ad that it is EU plug they don’t even want it back. I tried to tell them to take it back. I have changed plugs on some things and have them working now.

2. Doesn’t work. Again they don’t want it back. Usually a video or pictures suffice as evidence. Nice thing about electronics is defects usually show up quickly. So testing would be good idea. I always test before I confirm delivery.

3. Counterfeit chips that didn’t work.

You make it sound exciting. When I order 100 1206 LEDs for $1.50 when they write $0.50 who’s to say that $1.00 wasn’t spent on freight. I’m no lawyer just price shop. Also the description might say module/sample/gift. Not sure if it’s bad English but maybe customs can sort that out. Plus it might actually be a sample because when I contact the same company directly they want me to pay $10 shipping to ship me free samples directly. With 5000 pc min purchase for actual orders.

Playing with customs is like running a stop sign at 2 AM on your home street. You'll probably get away with it and even if caught, you'll probably be let off.

The problem is when things don't work out well, they can deteriorate rapidly. US Customs is pretty generous for non-habitual offenders. Not all countries are so forgiving. I think individuals need to be aware of the downside. I notice another user "Zeeus" seems to be interested in that deal. No country is given. If US, probably no problem. If South of the US, he could have a real problem.

great price on a Fluke if someone needs one. It’s 4,000 count but should be pretty useful.

It’s chinese one so all documentation and box will be in Chinese. But meter will work fine in English. Not sure about warranty.
seems good..

is it okay to attach alligator clips to the end of the probe? need worry about thickness of wire of alligator clip?

like instead of using the tip of the probe, want to use alligator clips as the end

Fluke and Tektronix are made in China now. Maybe not all models... Along with a lot of other major name brand goods.
