Our county medical examiner just started using full body x-ray machine.

They say instead of showing gory photos ,these x-ray can tell all about

the injuries received. The machine is only 1 of 12 in the country ,they show

every minute piece of metal, lead ,any adnormal thing. It takes 30 seconds

to do a full body x-ray instead of hours of putting x-rays together.

The origin was the diamond mines of South Africa for security purposes.

News Flash: I had a full body x-ray in 1976. That makes me think there are more than 12 of them by now.

The local "Thom McCann" shoe store had one when I was growing up. The whole thing was lead lined. Except where you put your face to look in to see the fit of the shoes. Gee, wonder why they don't use them any more?

As a physicist I have heard of those. Was it not some minor side effects with those devices. Like burns to mention one.

It was way neat to look at, but it was way stupid to x-ray children just to sell more shoes, and the limits on x-ray exposure were a lot worse 55 years ago.

Interesting that there were no notable spikes in foot cancer, skin cancer of the foot or any other malady that I recall.

Back then (at least in my family) you were lucky to get two pairs of shoes a year. So no problem for the kids. But pity the poor sales man, looking into the X-rays many times a day. Wonder how many end up with brain or eye cancer. You had to put your eyes right up to the viewing port, like a pair of goggles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoe-fitting_fluoroscope

One for the kid, one for mom and one for the salesman.

@ 12 ,they had to tape many x-rays together to get your full body scan, lots

of time, hours..days. This is 30 seconds for the deceased
