Wiring a single phase 110V reversible motor

Hi everyone, I hope you are doing well, I'm in need of some help,

I have a new 1/3 HP motor for my hobby lathe. Its replacing a 1/3hp 110V 1725rpm single phase reversable motor that the wires insulation had gone to mush on due to being 80 years old (lathe is from 1939)

I have a question about the wiring, I figured it was going to be straight forward but its not as simple as I had thought and figured I'd better ask before wiring it.

I'm not worried about putting a reversing switch in it right now, I would like to wire this so its spins CW and at a later date I can add the reversing switch and wire that in. for what I'm using the lathe for I cant see needing reverser very much

so my question is where do i hook up the wires. my cord has black, white and green. white is common, black is hot and green is ground.

i have attached pics of the motors info plate and wiring terminals

there is only 3 terminals in the motor and they are labeled as--
the top is L1 with one purple wire on it
the middle is 4 with two blues and a red wire
the bottom is L2 and 2 with one black and one yellow wire

Thanks

ok, thanks, that makes loads more sense now that I read your post.

so with the wires I have in my cord (white, black and green) I hook the black wire to the L1, the white wire to L2 and the green wire to the green screw.

I'm assuming if I get a get a reversing switch I'd hook the black wire to L1, the white wire to L2, the green wire to the ground screw and the red wire to terminal 4?

I guess that is where my problem lies, my red and black will be from the same power source.

It will be ran off a 2200 watt Honda generator. It a single 15amp plug I'll be using.

There are 3 wires one being a ground.

The red and black will both be from the same terminal on the generator.

If I switch the red and black I'll be putting the same wire back on each terminal.

I had thought if i put the black wire on L1 it would run in CW and if I switch the black wire to terminal 4 ( removing it from L1) it would be CCW.
But using a reversing switch so I don't have to actually to touch the wiring.
