Hi

I googled for #14 wire size and found it to be 1.6mm in diameter. is that including or excluding the insulation?

So when I go to buy it from jaycar in Australia, we do not use the US system here, but mm. not sure if that will in/exclude the insulation.

thx

In the metric world, electric wire is normally sized by it's cross sectional area.
14 AWG corresponds to about 2mm(squared). Standard sizes are 1.5mm(squared) or 2.5mm(squared).

Alternatively, (no. of strands)/(diameter of each strand in mm) is used.

According to my "Cable and Wire Book":-
28/0.30 = 1.98mm(squared) or
35/0.30 = 2.46mm(squared)

The insulation type and thickness is another whole ball game!
