WIFI SIGNAL POWER MODULATION

Hello,
Does anyone know if a typical laptop WIFI transceiver adjusts it's transmission power according to the signal strength of the connected hotspot?

Or does the laptop wifi transmit full power all the time no matter how good the hotspot signal is?

e.g. I ask whether moving closer to the hotspot or boosting hotspot power might save laptop battery.

Easy answer is ,

yes a laptop can, its up to the software, either the OS or the drivers for the modem, so it can change as you update software,

and

in terms of power transmitted , the change on your battery power consumption as range changes is fairly negligible,
power control is normaly done on modules for thermal management,

Thanks. I know that with mobile phones transmission power can vary considerably but I guess with wifi it's much shorter range so less powerful to start with.

Any idea what the power range is for a typical laptop wifi is in watts?
