hi,
i made an rc circuit with a 555 timer in order to reach a desired freq. of 440Hz. the freq. reached and duty cycle was 50%ish, but why was my soundwave square?

 

The 555 only outputs square waves.

 

If you connect to the timing capacitor you will get a quasi-triangular wave.
If you RC low-pass filter that signal you will get close to a sinewave.
You can add a buffer op amp to isolate the timing circuit from the RC filter and/or increase the signal level from the filter if needed.
