Why do we get old and die?

True... but then again, most scientists speak of evolution as if it had a will of its own... well, if it did, shouldn't it also have a goal? ... what's evolution aiming at? ... yeah, I can accept "the continuous improvement of life" answer... but continuous improvement towards what?
I share the same thoughts. We touched on this in the religious thread but I never got a resolution out of it. Why does evolution have any will or goals at all? How can a natural process strive toward anything? Even "continuous improvement of life?"

I don't think anyone claims it does, unless there are religious 'explanations' attached to it. Evolution is an inevitable result of interacting natural forces, as certain as gravity. Does anyone claim gravity strives towards a goal? I don't.

Here's my half serious opinion: gravity strives towards a black hole...

Hi

The primary purpose of any living organism, is self replication of its gene model.

In order to self replicate, it has to survive against the competition.

Any changes in the gene model, caused by radiation or other DNA damaging effects, that gives the organism an advantage over the competition, will be passed onto the replicate, we call it evolution.

It is interesting to hear that the latest space research shows that not only elements are produced by exploding stars but also complex organic compounds.

I believe that life, in one form or another is abundant throughout the Universe and our Earth was seeded from outer Space.

Disagree. Then the primary form of reproduction would be asexual.

This is, of course, the primary goal of hard core feminists -- but they are a distinct minority.

I specifically dispute that theory. I’ve known some feminists that REALLY know what they want. And mixing genetic material was very high on their list of wants and needs.

I'm a skeptic. I believe nothing at face value. There are enough holes in evolutionary theory to cast at least some doubt on the "big picture".
Some are contesting the survival of the fittest theory and going with the survival of the luckiest concept which gives a far better explanation for how the multitude of less than adequately functional lifeforms we have now came to exist.
