Hello all! I have an old Renegade REN1100s 4 channel amplifier and I’m confused as to why there’s two fuse slots. There’s always just been one 20A fuse on the left socket closest to the power connectors and it’s ran fine. Recently I may have accidentally attempted to jump my car with reverse connections (don’t ask) and blew this fuse so I’m going to replace it however I’d like to know if I should get a second fuse while I’m at it and if it’ll do anything for the amp

I did only use it for the subwoofer so as long as I put a 25A fuse in that left one I should be fine? I’m somewhat audio electronics illiterate, is one channel like left and right of one speaker set? I put the signal in in-line with my stock head system and it was two cables plugged into these sockets

 

It is very likely that there are at least two sections in the amplifier, and if every function that you want to use is working then my guess is that the other fuse is for the sections that you are not using.
Splitting a system into separately fused blocks makes a whole lot of sense, because the smaller fuse can clear with a much smaller over-current. If you have the owners manual it should explain in more detail.

I just downloaded the manual and it seems to be devoid of of even how to connect the power, so it is not likely to help with that.
Evidently the single package contains several independent amplifiers.

 

manual i saw shows that power has inline fuse... so the two fuses on the amp must be for the output of each channel

 

I saw that also and it made no sense. Like they used old art. The same manual does mention changing the two fuses to 25 amps for some applications.

 

I've seen two fuses used in parallel on the power input, rather than going to a 50A fuse which would need the next size fuseholder.

Ahh so if I were to ever use this to control my regular 4 speakers AND the subwoofer then I’d need a fuse in each however for my purposes of just the subwoofer the one fuse will work! Thank you so much for the insight and wisdom!

 

It's a simple question with a simple answer.
Did you check if it's part of the circuitry?
If it ain't it's just for a spare fuse.

 

To verify my guess, move the fuse to the other position. If it still works the same, the fuse sockets are simply in parallel.
