Hello.

I currently work for a manufacturing company doing PC, network, software, etc. support, but previously I was an electronics technician working for one of the big mainframe companies. That was in the mainframe heyday when you were required to troubleshoot problems to the component level. I liked working on the tough problems using test equipment and software diagnostics to find the trouble maker. When the software diagnostics began 'telling' you what card or module to swap it became a job for a monkey and I became bored with the work. There was little that was new, so with nothing new to learn I sought something that would keep my brain more active. That was 17 years ago and PC Support does all of that and more. I repaired several PC motherboards by replacing defective capacitors during the 2008, 2009 recession when we were told to keep spending to a minimum. That was just one of the many electronics projects I took on as a PC Support person.

Previous to mainframes and peripherals, I worked for a pager/car phone company repairing and installing. Yes, pagers were repaired to the component back then and car phones were the size of a 2U rack and were bolted inside the truck of a car. Only the 'console' was bolted to the 'hump' next to the driver seat. I did this while going to college.

I started playing around with electronics when I was about 8 years old and began hanging around a TV service shop where I eventually became a technician (I use that loosely), but I did fix TVs and audio stuff that came in for repair. It gave me enough money and a discount so I could buy test equipment and parts to build circuits.

That said I have about 45 years of electronics experience, a Second Class Radiotelephone License from the FCC (or whatever they call it today if it still exists). I still have the enthusiasm for electronics I had as a boy and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

You can visit the FCC's online universal license system and look yourself up. You will find you have a lifetime General Radio Operators License, if your license was current at the time they dropped the 2nd Class Radio Telephone license.

I am a PHP/JavaScript programmer who enjoys leaning and likes to hook up computers to the real world, even if it is just lights and servo's.
Cool, another web programmer!

I'm an applications developer at ADP. I haven't done anything with PHP, but JavaScript, Java, and HTML are all very familiar to me (among others).

Welcome!

I'm a "Power" Electrician. Basically, nowadays, I deal with a lot 480V power feeders and Busway/Bus Plugs etc. In Industrial plants. I've got Residential and Commercial experience as well. My company just promoted me into field supervision. Now I'm upping my game and going to try for my Journeyman card. Was looking for information about balancing an unbalanced 3 phase 120/240V feed with a single phase 240V heater(load). I have amperage readings with and without load wrote down in front of me. Somebody out there help please. Thanks.

Hi there!

I'm 18, I'm a brazilian student of physics, doing the first grade at UFF (Universidade Federal Fluminense), and i'm an electronic hobbyist too. I found this forum in google, searching information for my first power supply project.

I have no much experience, so i'm just a rookie, either in physics or electronic circuits...

I hope learn so much here and teach as possible as i can, sharing experiences and hearing yours! :)

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge here!

Sorry for my english mistakes too.

Hi all
I'm and old dude (50+) studying EE at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. I'm a first year. This forum looks like a great place to hang out to pick up some great ideas and to assist me with trying to keep all this new data inside my old brain.
Thanks

This site has been running very nicely for months in a row lately. We have several people with different specialties from DC to gigahertz and from nanoamps to kilowatts. We have dozens of different, "voices" so we can accomplish some level of connection with almost anybody that can write a whole sentence. The talent here humbles me regularly. If there is anything you think you know all about, prepare to get schooled.

Hi,

I have 40 years experience in designing circuits and implementing them on PCB.

I teach at the University of Kent's Department of Engineering and Digital Arts in the UK.

I've have a few videos on technical subjects.

In this video I'm discussing faultfinding PCBs:
