Who are you?

Hi all!
Just a newbie enthusiast :)
I don't understand electronics but I know how to put something together given a schematic and a list of parts -- normally I just buy kits :).
I know how to etch PCBs too.

Main reason I joined up is: I have an LED Running Lights kit (555+4017) which moves a little too fast for what I need... played around with it, and changed a capacitor to a higher one and was able to make it move on 1 to 15 second intervals (thru potentiometer)... now, I want to modify it to move randomly with a flick of a switch... i'll be reading past posts first, if I don't find it then i'll be posting a question about it -- or maybe somebody can point it to me :)

Thanks!

I am from Ferndale, Washington and graduated from Bellingham Technical College in 2002 with a degree in Instrumentation. I am currently working on study and home projects and getting into WWU's engineering program.

I am just a musician who likes to fix gear myself. I have no electronic education outside of reading a lot of stuff on the net. I just figure i should know a little about the gear I use as it is both interesting and rewarding to be able to fix a problem properly myself and its just convenient to cut out the middleman if a repair is simple and safe enough to attempt on my own.

Welcome to All About Circuits. There are a number of musicians here on AAC and many build and repair their own equipment. Music and electronics go hand in hand. Don't be afraid to ask for assistance.

Hi,
I'm jesterscup, I'm 36, a web developer, crazy maker-type / mad inventor, and a drag-queen ( yes really). I love using bits of tech to improve things I make, though my electrical engineering skills are sadly lacking ( at most I was a teenage radio ham ). I love pulling apart computers and turning them into functional art ( the raspberry pi , and arduinos are awesome, though I've really not tapped their potential). Crafting is my passion and I'm often to be found cutting/glueing/casting/painting etc. My inner perfectionist is always pushing me to make bigger and better creations, and while I'm pretty good at mechanicals & materials, my electricals are sadly lacking.

Hi All,
I'm just a hack who has questions about the application of some concepts I've seen demonstrated in projects on YouTube. I guess I should post my questions in the projects portion of the forum? It's nice to see an active forum like this.

The first 2 forums, yes. General questions in the first, specifics about projects in the second, and don't post in the Completed Projects forum.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks, I just posted in the projects forum.

If you think it would be more appropriately placed in the general questions area I can delete and repost there.

Thanks.

Hi, I'm a Grandad whose grandson now wants his model train set to "do things". I've previous experience many years ago as a TV technician so I can use a soldering iron and follow a circuit diagram (we had to in those days - no module swapping!) So I'm looking for ideas for PWM controllers, Turntable servo controls, Signals, Level crossing gates and general wiring up. I still have my old equipment in working order: tools, AVO9, twin scope and a 0-30v power supply plus loads of R's C's and various semiconductors. Most projects will be built on Veroboard and the first is a 360 degree turntable control with precision stopping points. I'm looking forward to getting ideas from this forum and hopefully contributing when/if my projects work. I do hate this newfangled leadfree solder ('elf and safety strikes again), but thankfully I've still got some proper stuff!

Hello! I am new to this forum! I live in Michigan. I took electronics and radio and tv repair classes in high school. I learned that,at least at that time,electronics was not one of my great talents. However, I need some help with my car,and recommendations for my choice of some equipment. thank you for your assistance!

Welcome everyone!

@rallyspit,
By now, there are a great deal of standards in model train automation. Even computer software to run your train track automatically! You could fine some inspiration in these designs, try googling for an hour or so.

@Almany,
Keep in mind that automotive modifications are restricted by the Terms of Service of this forum. Only repairs (mostly by part replacing) is allowed.

Have a nice day, everyone!

I am a retired Technician. I had to retire due to medical reasons. I am trying to regain my ability to work with electronics again as a hobby. There is so much I have lost. But will keep working on it. I love electronics. Their is so much you can do and learn. I used to work for one of the biggest semi-conductor (Chip)maker in the world.
