I did air conditioning and heating for 30 years in Florida. I lost my job in 2013, 2 months shy of my 20th year anniversary with the company I thought I'd retire with. I guess they didn't see it that way! I moved to Montana with my family and decided to go back to school. I'm an online student at ITT Technical Institute. I'm working on my A.A.S. Degree in Electronics and Communication Technology. I still have a lot to learn!

Nothing personal you understand, just bidness.

Yeah, I got that smarmy little speech too.

Fair winds and following seas to you from a fellow former Floridian.

It was a family owned business. We were the #1 company in Manatee County, Florida where I grew up! The parents had a small male child when I was hired, who was about 4-5 years old back in 1993. He was sent to the best schools, very well taken care of. Eventually he went to College in Tampa and received his degree in business. Never worked a hard day in his life. About 3 years ago there was a shake up in management and new titles were created and a huge management change. People were hired in, and positions were changed. Not mine of course. Not until July 5th 2013 when I received a phone call from the man that hired me, saying due to the change in management I didn't fit into their vision of the future and they let me go. No more loyalty! Absolutely broke my heart and completely affected everything in my life. Starting all over again after nearly 20 years with the same company at my age was not a pleasant thought. My family and I sold our home, relocated to Montana and I went back to school.

Where in Florida are you from?

Hello, new to this site and not very good at electrical anything. Old Navy Vet and HD rider, but willing to learn, have always found it difficult to wire up anything electrical. #1 colorblind, have to have someone identify the wires and then I mark them. Finally got that electricity is like water, just still wary about watts and amps. Like to build things and most require elctricity in one voltage or another. Started modeling a HO railroad and found out about DCC. Getting it just not very fast. Built a greenhouse for our dietary needs and am trying to get it all working under solar power and that is what brought me to this site.
Hope to learn, not sure what I can contribute, willing to share if I can.

I work at a ham and cb radio repair shop and enjoy it very much. We build linear amplifiers and power supplies and do mods and repairs on radios. I feel lucky to be able to have a job that I enjoy, I learn new concepts every day.

To what colors are you color blind,I might have a little trick to help you?

Hi Folk's,
I am young at Heart LOL I have raced RC Models Boats since 1972 running on dino fuels. The last four years I have been playing with a FE fast Electric RC Boat 52 mph and love it. INSTANT TORQUE 4s LiPo 5000ma 1800 Kv motor brushless and I data logged it 23,000-24,500 rpm and see's an amp load spikes 80+. Learning about ESC electric speed control and how NOT to make the smoke come out I have heard it is very difficult to get it back in.

My uncle started doing ham radio work and repairs when he was 16 years old and ended up getting involved in electronics pretty heavy when he was in the Navy. That was back in the 1950's. He ended up working on the Computer systems for the Mercury project and then ended up at IBM. He has since retired but is still a huge Ham radio operator in South Florida. He works during emergencies especially when they're threatened by hurricanes. Electronics is something I always wanted to do, but my mathematical ability was stymied from all the moving I did in my early high school years. I never grasped the concept of algebra but now I have no choice. It's wonderful that you have a job you enjoy! I'm hoping to be like that myself.

Thanks My Dad asked me what do you want to do for your life? What do you like most? I said Old Wooden Runabouts. He then asked what do you like the next best? I said Hot Rod engines. He said make the engines your life's work and keep the #1 as you're special that will last you a life time..............funny how smart Dad got the older I got.

Hi Mike, it sounds like your father was a really cool guy. He let you decide what you liked to do the most and pursue basically a dream to a lot of people. If that is something you enjoy and your happy doing than you have been successful. So do you build wooden boats for a hobby or do you just love woodworking in general? Hot Rod engines! So I guess you're in the racing game? When you say hot-rods are you talking about the the American made muscle cars from days of old or do you make hot-rods even out of the late model cars? Any particular make? My step-father was a heck of a mechanic. He bought an old 1960 Willy's Jeep and turned it into a dune buggy back in 1974. He was a police officer but a huge car enthusiast. There wasn't a car back then he couldn't work on. He was a diesel mechanic when he was in the Coast Guard, but loved his cars. He loved to drive fast too! I think that's why he became a police officer because back then you could get away with driving at high speeds, to go get a coffee. Do you race yourself?

Dad was a fun guy not to good at saving for the future. I big boats out of my reach $$$. I have five brothers so there is always a boat somewhere LOL. I used to race but only play with my RC boats much less cost than full size. You know if everyone would just try and do their best everyday it could be better for all of us. I help people if I can and if I can not I try and find someone who can help them. That's why I drive a desk today. Funny I used to call this place I work for in 1970 so I know both ends of the incoming phone, fax and e-mail request. Our Engine Professional magazine is free to everyone who wants it. Take a look at correct and back issues on line.

A curious mind, magnetized into the field of electronics. The flux in me is so strong that, I want to change the convention.

I'm too charged-up, I want to shield some light. By choice I end up in a faculty of 'electrical and electronics. May be the circuit will flow aboundantly.

Now you know me, who are you. B)
Just a little bored and search for what to do with scraping microwaves and other things of interest. Right now working on a novel approach at making the circuit for a colloidal silver generator. Get all my facts from the web. Was working on solution to making a vapor throughput to run on a wall wart. Got a USB step down should do the trick.

Briefly tell who you are.

I'm a senior student studying EE at UC Berkeley, specifically analog circuit design. B)
hello sir, and thank you for this informative site. its good to see individuals like yourself to have a unique perspective interest in this field. Myself, included, have had the fine opportunity in serving our country as a retired enlisted member of the air force generator field technician, aircraft (air force fighter jets) barrier systems specialist and aircraft maintenance crew-chief. this site looks like it is very useful for me. as i continue to "brush-up" on earlier knowledge gained thru military schools, generator tech's, a former hands-on scenario's in the commercial generator field, i hope i can find a good company willing to use and gain valuable insights i have learned in my field and others willing to learn and share.

Hi folks, Tbert here. I have an electrician background, but know nothing about electronics. I have changed professions, now a firefighter, and now weld in my spare time. I recently purchased an older, used welder and discovered a small fried part inside. My Internet search led me here, so hopefully by posting a picture of my affected part - the good folks here can get me pointed in the right direction. Thank you for your wisdom and expertise! FYI - I'm not a Smart Phone user, nor do I work at a computer - so sometimes my responses are delayed!!
