I really can't tell which is which among those small USB connectors. I have some FTDI USB-to-TTL adapters as seen in the photo. What I am unsure about is what kind of USB connector it uses. I need to order some cables that go from USB-A to whatever this one is.

That is a USB mini, which is no longer part of the standard.

Wow -- that makes it clear. It seems some have become obsolete (of which I was not aware) and the greatly simplifies identification.

I was a computer company's representative on the USB Implimenter's forum when USB first emerged and one of the architects that helped one of the earliest USB implimentations come to fruition. At that time there were very few USB connectors allowed to be used in conjunction with the USB logo. They sure made a mess of it since then!
