So now the cry babies in the NBA are whining about the term "owner". The NBA will now start using the word "governor" instead.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/...title-we-moved-away-from-that-term-years-ago/

Now I am sure many of the NBA players are owners themselves of something. Many are very successful business owners. Are they going to change their title?

I am sure some of them own rental properties and would therefore be called a "LANDLORD". Oh the horror of giving your money to someone called a LANDLORD just for the privilege of living on their property..

Pay me 10s of millions of dollars each year and I will call you owner, master, royal highness, supreme overlord, the big mamouu or whatever else you want to be called. And I won't complain one bit.

I am not a basketball fan. In fact I hate the sport. But I hope fans start voting with their feet and walk away from this utter nonsense.

There are a whole lot far more important social issues to tackle out there other than your employer being called owner.

What do you care what they call themselves. You don't travel in those circles.

Seems this issue is about the term "owner" being somehow associated with black slavery. Some people have commented that "Diversity" should also apply to basketball and there should be more whites, mexicans, asians, mideasterners, etc. in the NBA.

I don't care. What I do care about is how people are buckling under PC nonsense.

If you don't want to discuss then don't read the thread. Pretty simple.
Oh Puh-leese. You don't really care about that either. You just want to show off your happy warrior status so you can feel good about yourself. I'm not buyin' it. You're coming off as disingenuous.

You keep crying wolf and sooner or later when the real wolf comes along they'll turn their backs on you and walk away.

There is no politics in bitchin' & moanin'. Some people like to do it because they enjoy feeling self righteous. "Let's all bow to the oracle(s) of revealed truth".

The problem is that they are called the owner of the team. Team can mean the business, as you are talking about or it can mean the people who are on the team.

If I had a job at a privately owned company, and the owner of that company came to a meeting, and said “Hi, I am your owner,” I would walk out of the meeting and find another job.

It is in that sense that they are protesting, and I agree with them.

You really can't do that in the NBA. There are restrictions on which "teams" own your contract. You may not like it when the owner calls you "boy", but you have to put up with it; unless you can get the other owners to force the Neanderthal to sell the team -- which has happened.

If I was the owner of that company I'd say you need a new job. No one said I'm "YOUR" owner! Get your facts straight. You just made it sound racist. The person that owns the the company IS the owner. It isn't meant to be racist although I see you just took it that way. If your black you might want to look in the mirror cause I see where the problem lies.

That's a BIG stretch to come to that conclusion and to say that is how the the team owners present themselves. The label of "Owner" and the fact the NBA is prominently black has absolutely nothing to do with slavery and screams more of a marketing ploy or some type of calculated plot to gain the good graces of some additional people and draw in a bigger market.

I see nothing wrong with the following scenerio:
Owner walks in to a office and says to a bunch of new recruits. "Hello, I am the owner of this company and things will be done my way or the highway" then they have every right to walk away or to not sign a contract for x amount of money and the owner has every right to make sure the company runs as they see fit.

Look this is stupid, so what! I'm a monetary slave, he owns the team as well as the "Name of the Team" branding, from reading what others have said I don't see what context one wants to read into it. If he owns the team well, you can say "I'm the owner, get over it, know who I am" and that's it. It's all a publicity stunt anyway, look at the free advertising, negative but still the name is out there, if I owned the team I would know fans will forever, forgive no matter what.

Hey, I write the checks so, your owned right?
