a dc circuit. starting with a 680uf 450v capacitor charged to 430vdc. positive to an electromagnet coil. add a fly back diode. then to a mosfet then to ground of capacitor. n555 chip astable mode approximately 3ms pulse. run signal thru an octocoupler(k814p) to get to needed gate voltage. latest attempt was 47n60f. previously tried 70tps12 thy resistor. works but commutation is a pain. solid sate relays are expensive and large at that power level. if i must next step is to try scr but same issue with having to add a commutation circuit. can anyone recommend a mosfet that will work? what gate voltage and amperage to use?

ipa95r450p looks to fit my needs. to220 is easy to use with my fat fingers. on voltage 6- 10v. built for induction circuits . 950 max voltage I hope will be enough to handle anything that gets past the flyback diode. should not heat up too much at 430vdc. not sure of amperage as is capacitor fed. just a bit difficult to buy at the moment. live in tx so prefer to buy from mouser.
