What kind of component is this?

Hi, I'm looking at the schematics for Pololu's Dual MC33926 Motor Driver Shield, and I have a question about a part of the circuit.

This is the part of the circuit where battery power comes in, and feeds the motordriver. But what kind of component is Q1? Is Q1 and D1 some kind of reverse polarity protection?

Yes, it seems that that's exactly what it is, it is a P-mosfet configured as a high efficiency diode, with barely any voltage drop. Check this video, it gives a clear (and humorous) explanation of how it works
