The zeners are integrated onto the same die as the MOSFET structure. They are there to protect the gate oxide layer against ESD or other excessive gate voltage.

They don't need to, since if you observe the part's Absolute Maximum Ratings as listed in the data sheet, the zener(s) will never come into play. For all practical purposes, you can consider the zener voltage to be Vgs(absmax).
