i want to design an inverter that produce a 240Vrms and 50Hz. my idea is to use a 12Vdc as the source and convert it into AC by using SPWm inverter. But there are an issues that i need to consider.

1. using dc-dc boost converter or transformer to step up the voltage to obtain 240 Vrms.
2. the easier way to produce SPWM pulse.
3. type of filter
4. how to reduce THD

any idea are appreciated.......

They are very cost effective to buy and quite dangerous to make.
Why do you want to build one? And do you have the expertise to do it safely?

This is a popular question and will just about always get the same reply. Inverters are very difficult to build and can be purchased for less cost than buying the parts and trying to build one. Even if you have the parts there is a matter of making the board. You also did not mention how much power you wanted? Again, easier bought than built.

After you complete your build vs buy analysis, you'll be buying one.

The last one I bought for myself is 1300VA and cost $80 on sale (could barely buy the batteries for that price). It has an LCD display that can show input/output voltage/frequency, usage as watts or percentage of capacity, available runtime, and has a surge/power fail event counter.

Hi

Look at this video, you can purchase the how to book, pcbs etc, its all there, quite a number of us on the backshed forum have built our own variants of it.

If you want to do it, go for it, dont take any notice of the naysayers here.

Hi Solar Mike.
I'm not a "naysayer", but I am concerned very much for the TS's safety.
As you can see in my post, I asked if he has the expertise to do it safely. Over the years I have built a lot of stuff and worked on devices ranging from 100KW HF transmitters that ran on 30KVDC to very low power equipment.
As we know nothing about the TS, it really is a valid concern if he is a complete novice and was attempting to make a device with the very real capability to kill himself or worse, others.
DIY building is a real great thing to do and I am all for it, but there is a real "BUT"!
I still do not know his skill level, so the questions are quite valid.
And that advert video is showing a fairly advanced project. It does look pretty good and the designer has put a lot of effort into it.
I come back to the question, what expertise does the TS have?
At the very least, some soldering skill is needed. Can he solder? Along with designing and building industrial control equipment, one of my very enjoyable tasks was to supervise the work experience trainees and board assemblers so I know how soldering badly can cause so much trouble. Then I would train folks to do some basic fault finding, although final board testing and repairing was my job. I do love introducing people to electronics, and from the very start, I push the safety angle. It is a very good habit to get into!
I do hope the TS will have a great time with electronics, but keep safe.
