They told me on Christmas Eve that my job was going. Don't have any details yet of last day or redundancy package.

That is crazy.. Like waiting 2 days would have been horrible.

OR, telling you a few weeks BEFORE, so you could have bugeted xmas a little better.

I will NEVER do or allow such an action to be taken in any company I have a say in.

It was probably a bet on the golf course.. "I bet you a million pounds that you dont have what it takes to fire everyone on christmas eve!"

Maybe it was a government job. It is not allowed to believe in Christmas, and that has to be proved every chance it gets. That is, unless it results in a day off.

Edit: I suspect in reality it was a 1-week notice with consideration for carrying over to the 2011 budget (if on calendar year budget) and compliance with company policy to avert sabotage by fired employees.
