Has anyone done any test on the weather(rain, frog, snow, temperature etc) impact on 2.4GHz rf link?

in general; X band and K band microwave emission is affected by water in ALL its forms. zthe affect is not a positive one.

 

It would be good if you would construct the test of weather on wi-fi transmission and report back with your findings.

I was going to ask, then I did googled it. I don't record sending this question "What is the x band and k band", I don't know why it pop up in this thread.

 

For the record. 2.4 GHz is an "S" band freq. and is used in long range weather radar since it is the least affected by atmospheric water of all the weather radar bands.

For more detailed information here is a link to bands and waveguide sizes. Have a look around the site. It is a very short, sweet primer on most things microwave.

However, I don't quite agree with the conclusion regarding the impact of rainfull. On page 9, it says:

Rainfall is computed as the amount of rain fallen in the last 30 minutes.

because I believe the graph on page 11 is mis-understood.

The report says that the signal drop is not the impact of rainfall, but I think it is, as there is a 30 minutes delay of the rainfall measurement.

Any thought??
