Next time, please try to show respect and form a sentence or two.

FPGAs are being adapted to do pretty much anything these days. A simple application would be for controlling motors. Either through position, velocity, torque, etc. You can form PI / PID controllers in logic, which are integral to such mentioned devices. More complex applications would be industrial vision inspection systems, etc.

VLSI design or VLSI implementation - both very different areas of this large field and both very challenging in terms of potential projects.

I have plenty of project ideas, but until you give more detail in a constructive way it is not worth my time to go into any sort of detail.
