I couldn't see anything wrong either, with doing it that way. The only thing I could find was a guy on one of the guitar effects forums claiming, "never do it", with no reason given. Caps and other radial components are done that way.It is not seen that much now in modern circuits also due to SMT technology etc, but I see nothing wrong with it, (I do it all the time!).

I do that all the time too. That doesn't mean it is right. Any small change in inductance, capacitance, or resistance is trivial for what I do. Note, the 1206 SMD is 0.12" long. That means it will also solder on a 0.1" grid. However, using the resistors vertical is easier.I hope this doesn't hijack the thread but, is it OK when using Vero/strip board to put resistors in a "radial"(for lack of better word) configuration?
