Vaccum cleaner motor upgrade

Hey everyone!

I’m thinking to change the motor on my vacuum cleaner, but I have read it’s not as simple as just swapping it out. I’ve heard it might involve some custom modifications, and there are also potential issues with wattage differences. The motor from the current one has 750W and I can get a motor from a friend whose vaccum broke but the motor is good and has 2200W, both motors are 230V 50Hz. He wasn't sure but told me that changing only the motor with a different power and use the power regulator from the current one will use 750W only, do you know if it's true or not? If the dimensions are similar, can be plug and play using the parts that I have or should I change other parts too?

I’d love any advice from those who’ve done this kind of upgrade before! Did you have to do any major modifications, and how did you handle the wattage differences? Any tips, tricks, or things to look out for would be super helpful.

And if you have any videos, photos, or guides from your own projects, feel free to share them! Thanks a ton for any help or advices you can offer!

@MaxHeadRoom Sorry for the late reply. Both vaccums are bagged canisters for home use (tile and wooden floor, carpet).
The vac that my friend has is an older one, I think he bought it around 2013.
The reason why I want to do this project, if I call it like that, is because I don't like to throw away things that still works. His vac has a broken latch that close the bag cover while my vac is in good shape but has a faulty motor.

Most vacuum cleaners that I have seen have the motor an impeller ia single unit. Are you just changing the motor or the whole mottor / impeller assembly ? I think the 2.2Kw motor will be physically larger than the existing 750 W motor. Are you sure that it will fit into the available space ?

Les.

@LesJones I am thinking to change the whole assembly without swap the internals. But you are right about the dimensions, the 2.2Kw could be bigger and maybe I will need to cut the plastic to create space. I will ask that friend if he can measure the whole motor or I will pick it up.

hypothetically speaking, if the whole assembly fit in the place, can I use other parts from my vac or other parts need to be changed too?

@KeithWalker this is an option but what I like about my vac besides of his is the larger capacity bag and longer power cord and that's why I am thinking about changing the motor.
