Microwave communication is a Line Of Sight (LOS ) communication.
Does it mean UWB (3.1-10.5GHz) based WPAN is also LOS ?

LOS dominant yes. Even at 10ghz though you'll go through small physical obstructions like tree leaves or thin non metallic walls without too much difficulty depends on the power levels transmitted, receiver sensitivity and other environmental factors. The higher the frequency the more the type of material and it's dimensions will affect/block the signal.

Hi sceadwian,

But we can use UWB for ground penetrating applications and through-wall ranging and localization applications without any obstructions.

UWB ground penetrating radars are not communications systems the distances they travel through walls/ground are miniscule compared to the distances required for long distance communication. The way that physical objects obstruct the RF signals transmitted is how they work in the first place.
