Hi all,

I would like to know if I can use a 2182Y 2 core power cable with 0.75 mm dia (24 x 0.2 strands) for a lighting circuit which takes 10A at 5V ?

Basically I am wondering as the main cable is made for high voltage of up to 300V so if I use it for 5V circuit then the max current should be more!
I have seen some sellers sell a cable with the same dia and strand for car automation at 14A !

Unfortunately not. If it's a 6A cable then that's the maximum continuous current you should allow, regardless of voltage.

 

This is the data sheet for your mentioned cable. The wire comes in two diameters of 0.5mm and the 0.75mm you mention. Voltage Test : Core to core : 1,500 V ac / 1 min Voltage Rating : 300 / 300 V but the current ratings are 3 Amps and 6 amps respectively. Running a lower voltage does not mean we can increase the current. The maximum current or ampacity of the wire is as good as it gets and for this wire that is 6.0 Amps in the rated temperature range. Exactly as Alec_t points out.
