I have a Schneider Electric LC1D115 3 ph 440 115 amp contactor. After reading the inrush current is 15amps, and thinking that is odd for a coil,
I measured the coil resistance, it is infinite (open-12MΩ). Then testing it with a 3.5Amp 24VDC supply it had a slight noise like it was trying to pull in.
We got a bigger supply, 10amp, and it pulled in hard.
I was expecting a coil, but with this info, I have to think there is an electronic circuit that maybe bumps up the voltage and current to the coil,
to make it close fast and hard and then backs off for the 0.170ma holding current. It also my force a fast open of the contacts during opening.
This would imply storage and capacitors, thus the high inrush current.
If you have more info about what is going on with the contactor activation I'd appreciate your feedback, I'm kinda guessing at this but want to understand.
